Coronado Sock Knocker IIPA.
N: Grapefruit and lime dominate. Some nice saltine cracker notes and pine, and a hint of lemon and orange. A touch of apricot, papaya and peach. Really nice West Coast IIPA nose.
P: Grapefruit, lime and saltine cracker dominate. Definitely some pine (like licking a pine tree), herbal and floral flavors as well. Starts slightly sweet but bitterness quickly builds. Some lemon peel. On the first sip I did get some tropical fruits but that was missing from subsequent sips as the bitterness starts to take over the mouth.
F: Definitely bitter. Grapefruit and lemon are there initially but they fade pretty quickly leaving pine and lemon/grapefruit peel bitterness to go along with some floral bitterness. The bitterness lingers on the tongue.

Overall a very good IIPA but nothing to seek out. 87-89.

Ardbeg 10 that I bought today. I think that the last bottle I had was from 2012 and this bottle is from 2015, and I am interested to see how it has changed.

N: Lemon, tar, brine, smoke from a bonfire, and vanilla. Wet gravel, and coal.
P: Big time peat, campfire smoke, lemon, brine and tar. Some vanilla and oak as well.
F: ash, lemon, embers from a fire (or what I think they would taste like), and dry oak.

From my recollection it isn't quite as good as the previous 10's that I have had. Definitely seems to be lighter like they are using less first fill casks which removes some of the sweetness. Having said that it is still a very good whisky and definitely worth the price if you like peaty whiskies. 87-89.

Fan of Ardbeg 10. Had Ardbeg Corryvreckan recently, whoa that is a heck of a whiskey, so spicy. Saw a gift pack in the store today...bottle of Ardbeg 10 along with a airplane bottle of Corryvreckan and Uigeadail for $50. Worth it?

Tonight, Hopslam and now Caol Ila 12 yo. First time but love this whiskey.

I would say so. I think that Uigeadail is the best of the three (10, Corryvreckan and Uigeadail). It will give you a chance to try it and see if it is something that you would like to buy.

2nd glass, this time I added a few drops of water.
N: Notes of seashells, wet wool, gravel, almonds, lemons, and vanilla fudge. Water definitely softens the profile.
P: On the palate it is relatively unchanged. Massive tar, lemon, wood smoke, embers from a fire, diesel, and brine.
F: lemon, wood smoke, and brine. Some diesel and wet rocks. Tar as well.

Slightly different than when neat but I would score it the same.

Talking to me?

If so I have had it and enjoyed it. It is a great stout in the low 90's rating wise in my opinion. Gets better with age, but I think 1 year or so is plenty of time. Maybe drink 2 now, 1 at 3 months, 1 at 6 months, 1 at 9 months and 1 at a year (if you only have one now, then keep the extra one as long as you can before opening).

If you weren't talking to me, oops.

Yes, I was definitely talking to you (though I appreciate others' opinions, too). That sounds like a good plan. I might do one now and then save one for a coupla three years.

New question: What's the best stout you've had? What's your "stout Zombie Dust"?

Sounds like I need an EPA permit to drink this one.

I went to Safeway and they had 5 Ballast Point Sculpin in the build your own six pack area, so I added a Stone IPA for it and only paid $9. Not bad at all.

So Ballast Point Sculpin.

I finally tried Hudson Baby Bourbon from Tuthilltown Distillery. It's 100% corn, so it's very mild, no sharp edges. Tasty, but light. It reminds me of Buffalo Trace. IT's good stuff, but the 375ml bottles retail for around $45, which is way too expensive for what is just a good whiskey.

Watching the QuikTrip 500, smoking some ribs, and drinking some Green Flash West Coast IPA. It's firmly planted in my top 3 beers.

What do you think?

Oskar Blues G'Knight Imperial Red IPA. Probably not quite as good as I remember.

Less overpowering pineapple flavor unlike the grapefruit sculpin. Good but not great, definitely a beer made by the good idea fairy.
