Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. ET near Sarasota, generating catastrophic storm surge and life-threatening flooding across west-central Florida.
The storm is already producing tornadoes over parts of south-central Florida, and the tornado threat will likely persist through today, according to an NBC News forecast.
Depending on the hurricane’s track, storm surge up to 15 feet is expected in and around Sarasota. It is possible, however, that Milton’s path could shift slightly north, which could produce historic storm surge in the Tampa Bay area.
Florida's west coast is already experiencing rain, which is expected to intensify later today. Up to 18 inches of rain is forecasted from Tampa to Orlando, with a high likelihood of significant inland flooding overnight.

My father in law is in Daytona now and they are expecting up to 18 inches of rain. Its crazy how its basically taking over the state.
He is a big Biketober Fest guy. He is more concerned about that being shut down.My mom is in IN still for the summer but plans to head back down to Port Orange/Daytona next week to assess any damage.
The best possible news would be for it to hit slightly south of Sarasota. As long as Tampa Bay is north of the eye, the worst case scenario doomsday of storm surge is avoided. Great news that it is continuing to weaken as predicted. Evacuated up to The Villages FL from St. Pete

Ole Milt has wobbled a few times here in the last couple hours. Took a hard right and went more toward Sarasota directly, but now he’s sort of headed northeast again back toward Bradenton. It’d be nice if the shear could knock it down a couple more pegs by the time it makes landfall around 7:30/8:00.Downgraded to a Category 3.
Update
Said he went to the liquor store. All is well.
Riptides use to be our go to since it’s a 5 minute walk back to the in-laws house. Made decision making at the end of the night much easier.Sounds about right for Daytona. I was there for a week right before college football started and the L new me by name before I left 🍻
