We have a transfer!

Apparently we have an OL transfer from Northwestern University, per an article in my local paper, the Daily Herald. The transfer is part of a larger story about a new LB coach at NW

Bemenderfer transferring: Wildcats tackle Thomas Bemenderfer has decided to transfer to Notre Dame, his father confirmed Friday.

“(Thomas) said it’s a better fit,” Todd Bemenderfer said.

Thomas Bemenderfer redshirted as a freshman last season and was pegged as a backup left tackle for this fall. He grew up in Mishawaka, Ind. — located just miles from the Notre Dame campus — and earned all-state honors at Penn High School.

Todd Bemenderfer was unsure whether his son would get an athletic scholarship from the Irish. Thomas was named the Midwest Region’s National Football Foundation National High School Scholar-Athlete in 2005.

Well, he was a good HS student 4.1 GPA/1420 SAT (on 1600 basis) that played both ways for Penn.

Rivals had him as an Unranked OG with a 5.4 rating.

Scout ranked him as the #75 DT, 2 stars, 6-5 270 5.1 NW verbal with offers from Ball St, ILL, Miami OH, NIU, and Vandy.

As a Div 1 transfer he would have to sit out the '06 season. He'd have eligibility for the '07, '08, and '09 seasons.

Not a blue chip replacement for Harris but perhaps a future contributor as he was listed as #2 LT on the Northwestern Depth Chart. http://northwestern.rivals.com/cdepthtext.asp?TEKey=54

ND needs bodies as well as starters. In '07 he would have two years of Div 1 development (and a year of Mendoza and Latina) as opposed to an incoming 18 year old OL.

Wow. You guys know more about him than I do, and I know his brother. He may be a talent but I don't recall hearing much about him besides he was a good high school player...no star like a lot of people we are bringing in but hopefully he proves me wrong.

Thomas Bemenderfer has Irish roots. His brother, David, was a walkon SS during the Willingham years. And both mother, Judy, and father, Todd, attended ND.

You don't know this. You have no idea what kind of player this kid can develop into. Quit worshipping at the altar of the rivalscout stars. Be happy when we get a highly rated guy, but don't assume anything. And please don't downgrade Irish players before they ever step foot on the field.

i think he's trying to go from walk-on to all-american in one day. he's all over the place today.

Sounds like the cat who could be a great Gatrorade carrier. Northwestern transfer ,sound like a alum looked out for this kid. But I will agree Ol depth is always good.
