Von Miller of Denver Broncos faces suspension -- sources - ESPN

"Popped a molly I'm suspended, woo." - Von Miller

but really...the NFL is making quite a name for itself in the courts system this off-season...more so than I can remember in the past...can anything really be done?

What a moron.

My whole issue with this isn't the drugs...I don't think things like pot are going to effect the way a guy plays. It's the attitude of the players. They know the rules. Drugs are against NFL policies.

You're willing to throw away millions of dollars so you can get high (or whatever it is in this case)??? It's just stupidity and a lack of respect.

Kinda suprised actually. If you have ever heard VMiller talk, hes not a thug. He seems like a good guy that is articulate, smart and good teammate.

Very suprising to me.

Don't have to be a thug to smoke marijuana. I'm not a dope advocate and as a matter of fact I've never even tried it, but lots of smart, successful people smoke pot.

Rules are rules it doesn't matter if they are unjust. With it being legal in 2014 to smoke, I wonder if there would be a way too avoid trouble as it actually doesn't make you a better football player.

Dude... you realize who you're talking to right? I wasn't saying that at all.

But thugs are usually the ones that are dumb enough to get caught when their teammates are depending on them to be the leader of their team. Also... do we even know what he was caught with yet?

I've never been a fan of this line of thinking.

Not saying that you're implying this Wooly, but a lot of people "lived it up" in college and got through unscathed and then have complete apathy towards the injustices under the War on Drugs or alcohol laws, simply because they assume only the stupid ones got caught.

If it's indeed marijuana, it is legal in Colorado. He shouldn't be looked at as a thug when he's doing something legal and popular (and awesome, amirite?).

Now, when you have millions on the line should you be doing this? **** NO. But that doesn't make you a thug at all.

It's not legal, under the NFL/NFLPA contract. The State laws shouldn't really matter at all in this case.

...Tested positive for ecstasy and marijuana

There's a report saying he tested positive in 2011, but nothing I've read says it's ecstasy and marijuana this time...source?

What a moron.

You don't think pot effects how a guy plays? Certainly not an occasional joint, but an offseason of heavy marijuana use would definitely effect a player's performance.

I agree on the 2nd part. I've actually smoked with an NFL player. The whole time I was thinking, this guy is a fvcking moron for risking his career. He was going into a contract year and stunk it up. He was a heavy user and I have no doubt his marijuana use derailed his career. A former 1st round draft pick with limitless potential, he is now in his mid-20s and desperately looking to be picked up in time for training camp.

I think you should have paid more attention to the second part of my statement, not the first:

"when their teammates are depending on them to be the leader of their team."

Such a small percentage of users are "heavy users." Same goes for alcohol, etc.

Ok, the unscientific definition of "heavy marijuana user" is once a day, every day. If a player is doing that, it's going to effect his performance. If they are doing half that (3-4 times a week), it's going to effect their performance. The point is, smoking on a regular basis (i.e. more than "occasionally") will effect performance.

IMO, if you're not breaking the law, and not enhancing your performance, then the League shouldn't care. (Forget for a second about the ecstacy part...) Truck drivers need to stay sober. Football players...not so much.

Plus, they'll have a defense when all the Alzheimers/concussion lawsuits come in 20 years.

very....call it a personal research project

lol, for average joe's like you and I the effect is probably minimal. But, for world-class athletes it's a different story. Based on my personal research, my hand-eye coordination is certainly not what it used to be.

Under Colorado law, marijuana is the same as alcohol. Do we look down on adults who drink? I don't pretend to live in a PG world, and I sure as hell won't judge a man because someone else's kids might be introduced to reality sooner rather than later.

Taking drugs, which is against the NFL/NFLPA contract, not to mention (probably) your personal contract with the team, is WRONG!! So, yes, it's immensely hypocritical, stupid, and condescending, for this a-hole to tweet that he did nothing wrong, and try to act like he is being persecuted, and then later admit to drug use.

i may be an average Joe now but i wasnt always.

i was immersed in the drugs and athletics culture.

your once a day every day doesn't say enough detail.

are we talking a bowl with a buddy or two every evening, or a personal blunt to the dome?

we talking wake and bake/sleep aid, or before kick off.

if the best player in the world smokes a couple his every night his whole career it will have minimal effect.

go get drunk one night and tell me how you feel in morning, now smoke a couple joints the next night and tell me how next day.

the drinking culture of professional athletes has far greater effects on a career than smoking ever will.

so if his appeal finds him of no wrong doing, then what?

I'll laugh my @ss off at you if he appeals and wins. You are here calling him hypocrytical, stupid and condescending for simply defending his innocence. You have already tried him before he has had his chance to even tell his side of the story.

Ok, I'm not as old as OMM, or dshans, but I'm no spring chicken, either. But isn't "a molly" some kind of drug? And he is quoted as saying that he took one? If so, please explain to me just how he is going to win an appeal? If "a molly" is not some kind of drug, then I admit that we have to wait until all of the evidence is in.

I was thinking a gram a day. I don't really have time to look up information on how marijuana effects your physical and cognitive functions and explain how over time that would have a negative impact on athlete performance because I have to go to practice, but I really thought this was common sense.
