I've been on three or four different message boards and they're all saying the same thing.

They can't stop raving about how amazing Barkley was yesterday. It's like he threw for 500yards against Florida.

Apparently, Barkley was so much more impressive than Clausen that it defied the imagination.

They won't stop, even for Irish and non-Irish alike are throwing facts right in their faces, such as:

- ND has the 100th ranked pass defense in the country
- Barkley was hitting wide open receivers
- Players like Joey Elliott and Kirk Cousins have torn our secondary to ribbons

It's a little ridiculous. And also hysterical.

He did school 'em. McCoy (TE) was a man - He ruled. Had to admit... It was scary.

Love saying that now that I know the irratation it brings but here's my comment. I thought as I posted he ( Barkley ) would do a good job because I knew we would stop their run game (which we did) but leave us open to pass plays. He did have a nice day throwing to wide @#$ open receivers-enough said. THIS is what I have wanted to post after watching and hearing what carroll said after the game. Gone are the obligatory 'they ( Irish ) had heart and gave us all we wanted' and gone are the 'what a great rivalry between two great programs' etc. It seemed to me he wanted to play it off like no sweat we kept everyone entertained at the end and made some mistakes that kept them in the game. You know what that tells me******** he knows the 'arms race' is closing and closing fast if those recruits that were there decide Irish. On my eyeball test they are not better than the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. They just won the game, A game that could have gone either way. Make no mistake about this pete carroll knows Notre Dame is getting where Notre Dame needs to be. I think he felt the heat yesterday.

Dude. What is the point of this OP? Barkley played unbelieveably in about as hostile environment as a Freshman could find themselves. Clausen was great too, but he should be great. He is a 3rd year starting Junior.

Actually Barkley did hit open receivers but he also was throwing a lot of balls high. A few of those throws more on target and he would have had a lot more yards. He was good but like you said your secondary couldn't cover me. Rojo being rusty showed as well but thankfully McCoy stepped up.

Seemed like it was ND's gameplan to make Barkley beat them. Commit to stopping the run and hope you can get pressure on the QB. He made some great throws under pressure. The kid played great.

What are your thoughts on the game King? I'm interested to hear things from a Trojan's perspective. I thought we played well, obviously disappointed we came up short, but unlike years past, this game was watchable and competitive.

Barkley outplayed Clausen and Clausen had a solid game. Just give him props and move on. Notre Dame is notorious for being the coming out party for the next great SC quarterback and its getting old. Carson Palmer, Dirty Sanchez, and now this kid. Leinart was already cannonized before ND so I'll leave him out.

Yeah, we brought the heat and the kid made plays, can't take anything away from him. I still thought the front seven played a great game, that SC O-line is pretty darn good.

He (Barkley) threw a few high balls or he would have played even better? - No excuse to him - he did screw up a few. That's like saying: If Clausen hit the open Rudolph on the last play (the second last play) then Clausen would have played even better. Duh.......
Or like saying: If ND hadn't dropped a few clear Int's, he would have played worse... Duh, ya' think?

Nonetheless, Southern Cal beat us and Barkley played a great game.

From my side. I think Pete should have never started trying to run the clock out. Keep scoring and throwing , it was working and you had no answer. I thought Clausen looked good when he had time but your O-line was no match for our D line. And the problem was right there. If we didn't have to blitz you couldn't win the game. I hate that we didn't keep the pressure on and finish you when we had you down.

I thought the officiating was one sided but that USC made it hard on ourselves with all that BS by Harris and Mays. I thought Teo looked good and number 58. Tate is a stud and I honestly don't think he nor Clausen will stay. Especially when you look at what's happening to Bradford. They are stars. You just don't have enough help for them.

All in all a typical rivalry game. Should have been a blow out but you can never count out your rival. No matter how good or bad they are, they show up and fight til the end.

I don't think that Carroll took foot off the gas - Barkley throws Int. That's not running out the clock. We close it to 7. He's a freshman Shit get's into a kid's head. One more like that (tipped or otherwise - we also had our hands on a few Ints we didn't hold onto) and we get a chance at 34 - 34. I think he thought punt and as for much of the day (2 1/3 Qs) - he's a defense guy, he can stop us - and he did. Just about 70 yards closer to the endzone than he expected.

Anyway, you don't run out the clock with over 3 on it and only up 7. Not if you hadn't run well and passed your ass off.

Thanks for the insight, I agree with your assessment of the Trojan D-line. I think for ND to come away with a win in this series the offensive line and d-back talent need to be upgraded. I hope you're wrong about Clausen and Tate, Jimmy's a first rounder for sure, but with the talent coming out at WR I wonder where Tate stands. The draft eligible talent for this year and next is pretty impressive at WR.

I think they swapped quarters and if Kamara doesn't slip, or Rudolph catches a break in the end zone, or they call USC for holding once when we are blitzing we are having a different discussion. If you put JC behind center for USC he kills us. If you put Barkley under the duress that JC was under all day with receivers never getting any separation he flolds. Barkley was throwing to wide open receivers all day without even having to shift his feet in the pocket. JC had to throw to guys who were covered like a glove. IF our D had some hands we have 3 int's and this is a different discussion. I am getting tired about talking about our D getting close etc., this offense has been carrying them like a mother carries twins for 9 months. Let's see what the BC QB does to us next. I want to see some of the backups get more chances. Scott Smith, Zeke Motta etc.

Gary Gray has been promised more playing time - he was out of position a few, however, who's to know how much... they were all so far out of position way too often. Their 27th (26th) point - the screen - shit we called it screaming from the stands as we saw the corner blitz left it so the USC band could have marched down field through that side, east of the hash marks.
