Football Roster

Nichols is listed at 6'8 303..that is a big boy
Nix at 350 lbs.
Lombard 6'5 290
Utupo 6'3 251

Those are some big freshman

Doesn't it seem almost too big. Might be some BS...If it is true love it. How could a 6'8" 303 pound kid slide through the cracks. Nix at 350 really? I like Utopos size. Exciting to hear.

Michael Floyd is listed at 227 pounds. Floyd weighed 217 in the spring. We can assume Longo piled ten pounds of muscle on him.

I'm sure the freshmen still have some "baby fat" on 'em. After a year with Mr. Longo, they'll be lean, mean, footbaw machines.

Nichols may turn out to be the best kid in that class. 6' 8" TE in high school. I think he will be a big time OL

One of those practice reports said that Nichols looked absolutely massive, yet still lean and muscular at the same time.

I can't believe he already weighs 300 pounds. Didn't he weigh like 260 at the time of his signing?

Tate was 275-280 at signing. Still big gains and one big kid. That article said Tate and Lombard are both physically ready now, just a matter of the technique and mental part coming together.

It says 240 on Scout and 230 on ESPN. That's a ton of weight in a year or so. Hopefully his body can handle that transformation.

Nichols gained a lot of the weight by the end of the school year. I think I remember that he was keeping it off for bball and then stopped playing.

wow! thats a pretty diverse highlight video! the play at around 4:40 where he peels back and ear holes the defender as the qb is scrambling is great!

He put on 20-25 pounds each year in HS. We had considerable discussion on it last year in his Recruiting Profile. I documented the weight gain using his HS roster to get the earlier years. There was a poster from his hometown who provided inof as well. He did play basketball up until his senior year. He gave up BB to focus on strength and conditioning training to come in ready to play as a freshman. He also worked with a nutrionist to monitor his food intake and weight gain. This kid set his goals and worked to make it happpen.

Check out his recruiting profile for the background. You'll also find a breakdown of HS video by WabashFalcon who was an OL in college. Good read.

I thought that Kelly said Floyd had to lose some weight whenever he came on board. Now he gains 10 lbs. since spring ball?!?

As mentioned earlier in the thread, Floyd is not turned off by the idea of losing a bit of weight in fall camp.

From Coach D's (ISD) report on the first day of practice:

Junior Michael Floyd was listed at 227 on the roster I received yesterday, which concerned me. I was pleasantly surprised today. His gut is smaller, with his weight coming from a more developed core (which should allow him to have better endurance) and his streamlined upper body.

Eric Hansen noted Saturday in the SBT
South Bend Tribune: Notre Dame football: Floyd healthy and has his mind on football (and marketing)

He came back in great shape,” Alford said. “He's making plays.

and

... Floyd got on board by dropping roughly 15 pounds pre-spring, then building on 10 pounds of muscle over the summer ...

Floyd has said in interviews that the coaches want him making more yards rather than running out of bounds. That means more contact with defenders. Floyd and Longo have been developing a body to do that.
