There is no denying that a great wrestler will have a significant advantage on the ground, but the problem is getting him there. His speed in unreal and every time someone shoots for a takedown, he just slips it and goes back to work

Are you a boxing fan or do combat sports just not grab your attention?

I used to enjoy boxing back in it's heyday, Hearns, Robinson, Duran, Ali, Norton, Frazier, Foreman, etc.. I'm not exactly sure why MMA doesn't do it. Maybe because it's more like a street fight?

No, he says "touch gloves."

Ok but every other time it's just an option and the fighters know what he means. No one is required to touch gloves.

Ah, understood. I just love MMA in that there is so much variety. A guy could be getting rocked on his feet, then one misstep by his opponent and a submission ends it.

I understand, but you can't really expect anything else from Conor. If he has a chance to make a statement, he's gonna do it.

Had it taped and just finished it now. I really like Cerrone so it's hard for me to be too mad about that decision but it was really close. I don't remember being as excited to watch a fight as I am to watch McGregor vs. Aldo. That should be a dynamic fight.

McGregor is terrible at smack talk, this is how you do it.

I think he's getting the title because he has such a huge following being Irish. A title fight after 2 UFC bouts? I think Mendes would handle him, Aldo will.

I agree it will take one heck of a wrestler, but as good as Conor is, everyone who throws a lot of strikes particularly kicks leaves themselves open to being taken down. Even the apex striker, Anderson Silva, in his prime struggled with a one dimensional, B level fighter like Chael Sonnen because wrestling is all about smothering strikes and controlling position. It is amazing watching Conor do what he does, I just hope he really works on what has proven to be the most broad base discipline that has time and time again proven to be the technical martial arts striker's kryptonite. (As boring as it can be to watch sometimes in the octagon.)

He has fought his last five fights in the UFC and won all five convincingly. 4 of the 5 were stoppages. I think the Aldo fight will be good and can't really pick a winner but Conor wasn't gifted his title shot. He has a huge following because of his background and style (in and out of the cage) ,like you said, but he earned his shot at Aldo.

ha yeah Conor has been baiting Aldo on this whole promotional tour. You can see the whole thing is painful for Aldo but Conor loves the attention and the hype, he's in his element.

Love it! Conor has been toying with Jose the entire tour, and yesterday in Dublin was the climax. The crowd was insane, and when Conor stole the belt, they just went nuts. Sucks that we have to wait 4 months!!

SBG (Conor's camp) are pretty confident the fight is already won physiologically. Will be interesting to see if that is true. I think he can do it. Aldo has made a living on beating short and squat wrestlers, im not sure he can handle a guy like Conor

I'm with you on the wait! Like Tom Petty says "The waiting is the hardest part".

I agree this a different test for Jose. If Aldo can somehow stop Conor, he's no doubt the best Featherweight ever. He just hasn't seen this level of athleticism, and I don't know if he'll have an answer for it.

Thinking of heading to Vegas for this fight. Already have a room booked (comped). Tickets are around $600. I'm a long time fan of the UFC but have never been to a fight. I think this may be a great first one to go to...

most definitely. thousands of irish fans will be there, it will be totally different to a normal UFC event in that regard, more like a European soccer match atmosphere.

Still cant believe boxing couldn't get its act together (thanks Don King and Bob Arum!) and opened the door to the whole MMA/UFC phenomenon and success.

serves em right...but I remember when boxing was king...and it was glorious.

MMA may never be as big as boxing, but the excitement level aint even close.

Give me MMA over Boxing any day

Chump move to take the belt like that. I predict Aldo to tear McGregor up.

From the interviews I have seen Conor seems to be a decent guy, his antics IMO are absolutely calculated. He is operating on two levels, the first one is he is getting in Aldo's head, the second he is making Aldo a lot of money, because Aldo/GSP's temperament can sure use a Diaz/McGregor temperament when trying to promote a super fight. Incidentally, I think McGregor knocks out Aldo within two or three rounds. I just don't think Aldo presents anything that Conor can't handle, (he isn't bigger; he is not a one punch knockout guy; always has had endurance issues; is not an active fighter, maybe fights once a year; kicks and knees are going to be hard to catch Conor with; not a dominant wrestler; just don't see him submitting Conor). I would be slightly less confident with a dominant wrestler i.e. Mendez.
