I can understand raising tariffs on certain industries in which you want to protect within your own country whether it be for national security or some other reason. Making sure we have a robust manufacturing sector (especially in areas that are crucial in war times) is important.

What makes ZERO sense is coming up with this insane reciprocal tariff rates that don't even have any correlation to tariff rates that other countries are charging us. Charging Israel a tariff because we have a trade deficit, even though they've dropped all tariffs against us, is stupid as shit.

One thing is painfully clear, the new tariffs have NOTHING to do with fairness of the tariff fee structures. It is 100% about lowering the trade deficit. I'm all for lowering the trade deficit, but this is literally insane.

A lot of the numbers are just complete bullshit too. Idk if they're too stupid to realize the intricacies or just know their base will gobble it up regardless. IE Australia has no tariffs on US imports. This list is counting their goods and services tax. That has nothing to do with tariffs and is applied to all sales. It's like our various sales taxes. It makes absolutely no sense to apply a reciprocal tariff against that.

A trade deficit is not an issue for the US, like, at all. The whole point of Reaganomics is literally the opposite of tariffs and trade wars. Isolationist economic policy is like if Ohio State became an option team because they weren't running the ball as well as they think they could.
