Anyone watch this on HBO?

I'm caught up, just watched the fourth episode of the season last night. What a superb, spectacular show in nearly every sense. Last night's episode was one of the best I've seen on TV.

Yeah it's pretty great. They've kind of moved away from the "modern day" interviews which is a bit disappointing. I was hoping a good portion of each episode would be devoted to that (like episode 1).

I've heard it awesome but I thought I'd wait for the season to be over.

I think it the series' setup might be the future of TV though.

That each season is completely different. I think it's an...anthology? Like next season will be in a completely different location with a completely different cast.

I think it's a fantastic way to get A-list stars to commit to projects. They won't sign up for five seasons, but as the prestige of doing great TV booms, and it is, I think we could see a lot more of this.

Yeah I think that might be an anthology. It's a good idea plus you can sprinkle in a cameo here and there with A-listers from past seasons if appropriate.

It's awesome. A show hasn't hooked me like this in quite some time. MM is killing his role, as is Woody.

I'm completely hooked. MM has been phenomenal, the writing is brilliant, and I really enjoy the dark/creepy feel to the show. This show, along with Justified, is holding me over until Game of Thrones, Mad Men, and baseball are back in my life...

I really want to meet Ricky LaDieu. The ending to episode 3 was creepy as hell.

The tracking shot to end the episode was epic. 6 minutes long!

The show is fantastic. I love the dynamic between McConaughey and Harrelson. The characters are great, the story is great, the directing has been top notch.

The final scene from episode 4 was so bad ass. My heart was pumping so fast throughout the whole scene, and IIRC, it was shot with one camera. The scene was perfect. Edit: ^ what gkIrish said

Check out American Horror on FX. Different plot, different settings, different characters every season, but a lot of the same actors. Great stuff.

Back to TD, slow developing, but building great character depth, and the story is really picking up steam. I've watched each episode a few times just to soak it in. Great acting, beautiful chemistry, and a very thoughtful approach.

Good call. The music is also fantastic in this show. Definitely a show I keep watching through the week until the next one. I like it enough that the Super Bowl pissed me off b/c it got delayed a week.

That's what I was thinking as well. It gives the director and stars a chance to give everything they have in the story to 8 or so episodes, which is certainly paying off here.

Such an impressive scene. Incredible directing with the talented actor to pull it off. Gripping and badass.

Really, much of the episode from start to finish was like this. The show is so brilliant in how it creates tension and suspense even in scenes where MM and WH are just talking.

This show keeps getting better and better.

Where is this going now? Seems like there isn't much more in the past to delve into besides the altercation between the detectives they keep referring to. I'm thinking there will be a lot more "present day" scenes.

IDK, still a pretty big gap between now and then (years). I think the present heats up (action instead of interviews) but we'll still see a lot of the past.

This really is trending to be my favorite all time show. Or at least a season of a show. A show hasn't ever made me think like this one does. Can't wait until the next one.

If any of you are watching the show, and are on Rivals, there is a good thread on the Main board every week for it. Lots of interesting theories, etc.

Haven't read any theories yet but I think a lot depends on whether there will be a second season with the same actors or not. I think the presumption is that there will only be one season but is that confirmed?

I'm 99.99% sure.

I'm going to go against what I said earlier and watch it before they're all out. The reviews and bewb scenes are just too good.

Last two episodes were two of the best I've ever seen on television.

Mild Spoiler so Buster stop reading

It's really cool how Cohle and Hart are part of the circle that Cohle talks about with the beer can.

"Time is a flat circle. Everything we do or have ever done, we will do again."

Cohle goes from being crazy to being normal back to being a wacko.

Hart goes from a stable home, to an unstable one, and back and forth again.

The alcohol consumption is also part of the circle. Cohle was an alcoholic, then wasn't and now is again. Same with Hart giving up drinking. And the best part is that their circles interconnect at different points.

Ya, it's a one season, 8 episode deal w/ this cast/story. The writer wants to do 3 seasons, he has 3 unique ideas for the 3 seasons but thinks if it goes longer than that it will be too tough to keep them unique.

3 episodes left, and then a new cast and story. He is supposedly super excited about the main character for season 2.
