Something we have to remember is that the typical loud stadiums like TAMU, UF, or Death Valley has student bodies that number in the 10s of thousands unlike NDs 9000 undergrad population. It helps to have 10000 students at the game instead of 4000.

Unless I'm mistaken every ND student receives tickets to every home game, so the student section should be at just under 10,000 every game. But that is easily 1/2 to 1/4 of what some of the other programs have.

Georgia has 2 areas for its students, the endzone underneath the videoboard and opposite corner. Probably 30000 students at each game.

I was near the Michigan band as well... love the D shutting them up, can't remember hearing their infernal fight song! Electric atmosphere, student section looked nuts. Also, ND is only a lil over 8k Ugrad.

I was sitting field level in the south endzone.

I would report on how loud it was, but I was too drunk to tell.

I'm expecting a similarly good atmosphere for the Stanford game, assuming Stanford doesn't lose between now and then and the game is a battle of top-10 teams.

We don't receive them, we have the opportunity to purchase them for around 300$. Not everyone does it, i'd say around 5/6 of students do. And when you get a limited supply for a student body, some who would go and cheer don't bother to get tickets, leaving them for the more rabid fans.

You are mistaken. Back in my day they came in a package deal with student fees – a nominal fee way back when. In today' market it is a separate fee should they decide to exercise the option.

Believe it or not, not every student (undergrad or graduate) feels that football is the be-all and end-all of life on Notre Dame. The "bottom line" is that the university relies on "blue hairs," alum or otherwise, to fill the seats on fall Saturday's. Guarantee that every seat will be filled with screaming, standing fans and we'll talk deal.

I have had multiple experiences like this. After the BC game last year and my experiences, i swore that I wouldnt go back for awhile....yet i return this weekend. Anyone else have horror stories from the stadium?

I was there during the BC game last year also, sitting next to a buddy I brought (a BC fan) hoping to watch ND pound his team in a hostile environment. It was disheartening to say the least. As an IU student I've been witnessing my fair share of non hostile boring environments, but that was truly one of the worst...

I thought the michigan game was the loudest I have ever heard that stadium. The students (myself included) were on fire the whole game. There was no 3rd quarter lull, and everyone yelled on every play.

I personally yelled louder and longer than I ever have in my entire life. This resulted in extreme pain in my throat/neck as well as in my lungs. It hurt to breathe, swallow, talk, or really even turn my head until today. I'm finally getting my voice back today, but let me tell you... I sold out for this game. I left absolutely everything on the field. And I don't regret it one bit.

Agreed... students section was much louder than v. purdue. could barely even hear the PA, much less the rest of the stadium when the D was on the field....

oh and to resolve the how many students question... Official stat from the university is 97% of undergrads get tickets. So just under 8000 of us at every game.

That was the first time I've ever heard our crowd loud for EVERY defensive play. I even thought it was too loud when our offense was on the field sometimes because people were still going nuts from Michigan's turnovers.

It was very loud away from the student section too...but boy did I miss being a student. You younger guys: enjoy every moment while it lasts.

Don't forget the grad students and saint mary's students who get tickets as well

And yes, the atmosphere was electric! Best game i've ever been to! I had the old folks around me standing and screaming right along with me. A few families sitting behind me, but never once complained...probably because before the game I warned them that I'd be standing and cheering throughout. Everyone was awesome and it was a great time!
