DC. Living in this area and yes, all the normal sites work, but here's an easy, not very well-known event- the USMC concerts/parades at 8th and I. You enjoy the Silent Drill team and band on summer Friday evenings. Badassery event. Here is a link:

Evening Parades at Marine Barracks Washington

Event Overview
Marine Barracks Washington's Evening Parades are held nearly every Friday from May through August. This unique tradition has been hosted at the "Oldest Post of the Corps" for over 60 years. Beginning at 8:45 p.m., this 75-minute ceremony showcases the pride, professionalism, and esprit de corps of the Marine Corps. Guests experience military excellence with performances by "The President's Own" United States Marine Band, "The Commandant's Own" United States Marine Drum & Bugle Corps, and the esteemed United States Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon. Admission is free, but reservations are required.

DC? I always pictured you in Montana. I'm a little disappointed.

It's where I work. Even though I'm partially retired I'm still stuck in a field that only pays in DC. And to be fair, I absolutely love what I do. Outside of that, I'd be out of here.

Just came back from vacations in Oklahoma (hunting) and West Virginia (skiing)Timberline Mountain (best skiing in the DC area) , if that helps assuage the disappointment.

Looking at taking a week's vacation next year to Tybee Island, Georgia. Anybody ever been there? Recommendations would be appreciated.

If you ever want a nice peaceful vacation in Florida, look at North Captiva Island. Been going there every year for last 6 years. Golf carts only, sand roads, only like 120 houses on the island. Only stressful part is getting a flight, taxi, picking up groceries all in time to be there at the water taxi out to the island cause they do not wait

I really like Savannah and have been a few times. Really nice southern city that’s set up beautifully with all the squares. Did a few day trips out to Tybee, though never when the weather was that great. It’s been 10 years or so since my last trip so no real recommendations. Have fun.

Wife and I are headed to Naples, Italy in March. Will spend some time there then Amalfi Coast and Positano and then train up to Rome. First time in Italy and have heard mixed reviews, especially Naples. But I think it will be an enjoyable trip.

We didn’t do Naples other than the train station but we were in Sorrento and Capri, and stopped by Positano for the day. You’re going at a great time as it should start to warm up a bit but it’s not even half of what it’s peak tourism season looks like. My qualm with Amalfi is they know they can take advantage of Americans/Brits, whereas I’m sure your experience in Naples is going to be significantly more authentic.

We’re currently planning our honeymoon for Tropea (resort town in Calabria) and Amalfi in June. Can’t wait to be back.

Yeah, Tybee beach is just a beach like any others. Nothing too extraordinary but it's cool. I think we spent about a half day there the last time we were in Savannah.

Thinking about a President's day weekend trip. Mexico City and Santa Fe have been bandied about. Anyone have strong feelings on either?

I lived in Mexico city as an exchange student when I was in college for my Spanish minor. Alot of nice places, but definitely do your research on where not to go. Gotta say....food was better than Hacienda....just dont drink the water

CDMX is cool but a smaller city like Guanajuato i would really reccomend, you will get that city vibe but its much smaller and safer but so many cultural things to do and the food and atmosphere on the streets is great

You can pop over to Leon then and do all your leather goods/cowboy hats/shoes shopping and other cities like Queretaro, San Migel de Allende are all within reach. I couldnt reccomend this state more.

Had a fantastic time in Mx City when I went last year to see Metallica. Been there multiple times and never had a bad vibe or worry. Street food was savagely good too. I think I last stayed near Alameda Central.

Headed to Vegas to visit my bro and SIL with my daughter. Then we are all headed to Tahoe for a week of skiing. Been all over the world, including Macau, but never Vegas. Huh.

Fernie has a 2-week Camp that's rather inexpensive, and I'm looking to up my game into the higher advanced ranks.

Absolutely no snow out here, it sucks. The 60 degree weather in Denver is nice but the lack of snow in the mountains is crazy
We’re planning to head to Telluride or Crested Butte middle of February. Hopefully, the winter storm systems have kicked in by then. Telluride is our favorite.

Had friends in Stowe last week and was told a ton of people there who had cancelled their Beaver Creek/Colorado trips due to the lack of snow.
We looked at Stowe as well, but wanted to avoid MLK weekend crowds. They look like there having a nice season so far. Beaver Creek has 16% of runs open currently.
