One of the Kansas State Wildcats' most explosive offensive options from last season won't be with the team in 2014.

Quarterback turned wide receiver Daniel Sams confirmed with ESPN.com through Twitter message Monday night that he will be transferring from Kansas State after the semester.

GoPowercat.com first broke the news through Sams' mother.

After backing up Heisman finalist Collin Klein during the Wildcats' Big 12 championship run in 2012, Sams spent much of last season splitting snaps at quarterback with juco transfer Jake Waters.

Sams wound up leading all Big 12 quarterbacks with 807 yards rushing, which ranked ninth overall in the league. But during K-State's late-season surge, which included wins in six of its seven final games, Waters gradually took over the full-time job, pushing Sams to the sideline.

In the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl against Michigan, Sams only attempted one pass.

To get back on the field, he requested a position change to receiver during the offseason. But he had only two grabs for nine yards in K-State's spring game.

Interesting note from Dub's posting of the Williams article about SEC rules. Does anyone else find it ironic that the only place that the SEC rules exceed NCAA standards is protecting one member from poaching players from another?

Williams may look at schools such as Auburn, UGA and South Carolina, but he is unlikely to transfer to another SEC school because he may have to sit out two seasons, per SEC transfer rules. However, he could attend a junior college like former Alabama running back Alvin Kamara and be able to enroll at another SEC school after one season.

He doesn't cut someone, it's harboring thugs. He does cut someone, it's to make room on the roster. Jamal Marcus was their #2 DE and played really well in the Orange Bowl.

Agree, just short of a Class A felony with bodily harm, Urban Liar isn't going to dismiss someone unless he knows his replacement is more than capable.

Except that he was a ghost this spring, playing mostly with the 2s and 3s. Interesting...

Have you followed Urban for the past 5 or 6 years?

If so, you wouldn't question that comment in any way.

These football transfers are worth keeping an eye on this fall

Whether it is a need for more playing time, a coaching change or simply a need to start fresh, there is never a shortage on players transferring in and out of major college programs.

Just in the last few weeks, running back Ty Isaac has left USC, quarterback Riley Ferguson is transferring from Tennessee and former Aggies wide receiver Ja’Quay Williams and former Georgia defensive backs Josh Harvey-Clemons and Shaq Wiggins have transferred to Louisville.

This week, the SEC is trying to level the playing field with coaches proposing the removal of the ban on graduate-transfers having immediate eligibility in the conference.

Last year, players such as West Virginia running back Charles Sims (transfer from Houston), quarterback Tom Savage (Rutgers to Pitt) and South Florida defensive end Aaron Lynch had productive seasons for their new teams. This fall, several transfers appear poised to make a name for themselves on the college football landscape.

Before you check the photo gallery below for five transfers 247Sports feels could have a huge impact this season, here are a few others to keep an eye on in 2014:

- Arizona could have a top-five impact piece of its own, with former LSU defensive end Jordan Allen, wide receivers Cayleb Jones (Texas) and Davonte’ Neal (Notre Dame), and quarterbacks Jesse Scroggins (USC) and Connor Brewer (Texas).

- Former Florida quarterback Jacoby Brissett looks like a perfect fit in Dave Doeren’s pistol offense at North Carolina State, but the Wolfpack might be asking him to do too much in 2014.

- Wes Lunt was only 6-for-16 for 99 yards and an interception in the Illinois spring game, but the 6-foot-5 quarterback has been the talk of the program since his arrival from Oklahoma State last year.

- Former Gators offensive coordinator Steve Addazio landed a pair of transfers from Florida in quarterback Tyler Murphy and offensive lineman Ian Silberman, and both appear poised to start for Boston College this fall.

- West Virginia running back Rushel Shell arrives from Pitt hoping to finally fulfill his potential, but he enters one of the deeper backfields in the ACC. The Mountaineers have senior Dreamius Smith, spring sensations Dustin Garrison and Wendell Smallwood and Andrew Buie.

- Earlier this month, EerSports broke the news that former Gardner-Webb FCS All-American defensive end Shaquille Riddick will transfer to West Virginia for the 2014 season. Riddick's 19 tackles-for-loss were second among FCS players, and his 8.5 sacks were good for 19th. While the FCS-to-FBS jump is a rare one, Riddick has the size (6-6, 250) and physical tools to make some noise. He will get an opportunity to make a name for himself in the season opener versus Alabama.

- Former Texas Tech quarterback Michael Brewer enrolled at Virginia Tech as a graduate transfer this week, and the Hokies are hopeful he can pick up the offense quickly and push redshirt senior Mark Leal for the starting job.

According to CardChronicle.com, Abraham “Nacho” Garcia, Chandler Bridges and Cameron Fraser have decided to leave the Cardinals football program. To where any of the three may transfer is unofficial, although TheCrunchZone.com reports that Fraser may be headed to Youngstown State.

The departure of the most experienced of the three, Garcia, will likely be felt the most in the upcoming season.

Garcia was a three-star member of the UofL’s 2012 recruiting class, rated as the No. 55 guard in the country. In the seven games he played last season, Garcia started two of those contests – one at right tackle, one at right guard — before suffering a season-ending knee injury in late October.

Bridges, a two-star tackle, and Fraser, a three-star tackle, both took redshirts as true freshmen in 2013.
