Did this happen outside or inside the stadium?

DOES IT MATTER?? The glass bottles happened outside, along with me being called an "Irish C-word". After an Usher walked us to our seats mid way through the 1st qtr and very filthy derogatory language and names being hurled at us, I told a guy to F off, and he hurled a beer can, and his aim was off because he hit my friend who had turned around to make sure those MEN did not make good on the threat to punch me in my C***S*****. The can hit him and split his eye open. Security and ushers came, the men were arrested and we left.

That's the funny thing about anecdotal evidence. You've got two other posters corroborating my experience (quite closely in fact) in this thread, while you and MGoBlue are disputing it because you've never seen it.

I should point out that that wasn't your initial argument. You basically said it happens at every school, and that we should get over it.

There's no way to prove it definitively without conducting a study that none of us has the time, means, or motivation to conduct.

I'm not saying it never happens. Where alcohol is served/consumed, drunks lurk.

My thing is, not all Michigan fans are like what people in here have been saying. Not a majority at all. There are drunks no matter where you go. At our tailgate, we encourage opposing fans who don't know the area to stop by for a hotdog or a brat. For the game against delaware state back in 2009, we had literally about 20-25 delaware state fans/parents/alums at our tent.

If I'm coming off as an a-hole in some posts in this thread than I'm sorry, but like I said, this is sensitive topic for me given my past experiences as I'm sure it is for some of you.

I have seen opposing fans attacked numerous times at ND, the Outhouse, MSU and USC. I have never had a problem anywhere but at a Cincinnati Reds game.

Unless you are in the student section for every single football game, and ask every single opposing fan if anything happened to them like that, you don't know for sure.

Again, I was in the student section for every game for the last four years. No matter who the fans were, UM, USC, Stanford, MSU, or Purdue (all of whom I've seen in our student section), I have not once seen the atrocities committed in Ann Arbor. The worst that ever happened was that we threw a Michigan fan's Michigan hat up a few rows. Needless to say, it was returned after we messed with him a little. Those things are harmless. Throwing cups and other items at people while they're walking, not so much. Many of the tailgates I was at had opposing fans at them too. There were never any altercations. At most, the fight songs would be sung or rival chants were shouted. So again, any assault is one too many.

Typing in caps doesn't get your point across better. Do you remember what section you were in?

I'm not telling anyone that their reality is wrong. Personal experiences are just that. Try not to generalize it to the whole fan base. As I said earlier, there are always some people who act like jerks (Notable exception: MSU. For here, they are all jerks! lol).

Actually, correction. A USC fan was punched by an ND fan two years ago. The ND fan was a townie who was extremely drunk. Two other ND fans got the cops while other fans helped the USC fan up. So, there may be assaults at ND that I did not witness or hear of. But the crucial difference is that at ND, the other fans will make sure it doesn't happen again and will make sure you're ok. At Michigan, they'll laugh and if they're really nice, they'll stop throwing things when they draw blood. As a needed clarification, only the younger Michigan fans are really bad (40 and under). The older fans we saw were very helpful and genuinely nice. They gave us paper towels and apologized for their idiot "brethren". What I think really separates the Notre Dame's and Nebraska's (and others) from Michigan, MSU, OSU, etc. is that at the latter schools, you have some nice fans but you also have a vast contingent of horrible ones. At ND and Nebraska, most fans will go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your time in South Bend. I'm sure there are bad fans but they are the miniscule minority.

It was NOT the student section, though I know you so desperately want it to be. And no, I do not remember what section it was. But I am 100% positive it was not the student section. I can't help but be severely underwhelmed by your lack of compassion or acknowledgement about this situation. I am telling you what happened, and you have no regard, nor care for what I said, only where I sat, tread lightly, you are proving my point.

I also have to mention I have a serious sore spot for grown men who threaten and.or beat women, since I am a domestic violence survivor, so again, choose your words carefully or I'll get banned.

I'm sorry I'm not groveling at your feet okay? Sorry you got treated like that. If you think I'm like that, go back in my previous post and read about our tailgate.

I'm asking simple questions so I can figure out where you sat because I have The Big House pegged so well on what crowds sit where. Were you in the endzone? Sidelines? Corners?

Oh and In 2000, an ohio fan shoved my niece pretty hard so socked him square in the face. I'm clearly not promoting touching women...

100,000+ Fans... large percentage of them drinking... ALL highly invested and emotional about the game.

You are bound to have idiots no matter what stadium you are at.

I'm sorry for any and every bad experience for visiting fans, but for me these are the unfortunate risks you take when visiting an opposing stadium.

Personally, I'm against generalizations, and saying "All.." or "Every.." of a specific group of people or fans. The important part of this story and thread is a man's life was saved due to the awareness of another man. It just so happens to be a Wolverine fan helping an ND fan... which I think is pretty cool.

I never asked you to, but firing questions at me like I can't possbly be telling you the truth wasn't cool either. We were in a corner I looked at a seating chart so it was either 327 or 328.

Good post. It's certainly a small minority that gives a bad impression of the whole. I hope we can all agree on that.

I got hit outside of the stadium after the game, on the walk back to the bus. You probably have a better idea of where buses carrying visiting students are parked.

Redneck-looking guys, sitting in lawn chairs along the sidewalk; they probably didn't have tickets, because we left immediately after the game.

Yeah you guys where most likely on the southwest side, you were close to Crisler Arena probably when you pulled up. And yeah, there's always poor guys out there collecting money (114,00 people, he probably thinks some ought to give him some dough)

University of Michigan student sucker-punched Notre Dame student, Ann Arbor police say

If a Notre Dame student did this to a Michigan guy it would've been all over ESPN.

I'm convinced that 90% of Michigan fans are good people that don't act like drunk abusive a-holes at games. But 10% of 110k is still 11,000 drunk, violent and out of control people that your university DOES NOT do a good enough job of policing.

Good post. It's certainly a small minority that gives a bad impression of the whole. I hope we can all agree on that.

Agreed on both accounts.

I didn't mean for this to get so contentious. As you recognized earlier in the thread, Wolverine, getting assaulted by opposing fans like this, especially when you're in enemy territory, is a pretty polarizing and memorable experience. I have no doubt that you're among the 90-95% of respectful UM fans.

I don't mind opponent fans on our board as long as they keep it classy which wolverine and that new guy Spartan do. I actually like a outside perspective on some ND topics
