Anyone else watching this series on H2? I find it fascinating how so many of the key people in WWII had key roles in and were shaped by their experiences in WWI.

I found the series incredibly frustrating. Yes, it was cool to see the "great men" dramatized.

But the show did a horrendous job depicting military events. For example, the show repeatedly used modern US destroyers (missile turrets, modern radar, CIWs, etc.) in place of WW2 Japanese and American ships!

For some tanks, it used Russian and American models that were not produced until decades after WW2 ended!

This is the freaking history channel for goodness sake. They have more WW2 footage than probably anybody and yet they use clips of Cold War and modern vehicle and vessels in place of their WW2 versions? WTF?!??!?

It was good for sparking the interest of someone who may not be into history otherwise... I caught a number small of inaccuracies but hey, my daughter and wife both have been talking and reading 20th century history with me BC of it... That's a win

I would strongly recommend listening to Dan Carlin's podcast series on the Eastern Front of World War II "Ghosts of the Ostfront" and on World War I "Blueprint for Armageddon."

I had always been a pretty huge World War II fan, but Dan Carlin has done a rather amazing job of telling just how interesting World War I was. He starts framing Europe from the Napoleonic Wars onward to set up the situation of pre-WW1 Europe, and goes into incredible detail about just how unprepared everyone was for the war, strategically speaking. There seriously needs to be a miniseries on the matter.

I agree with Buster. Hardcore History is very very good.

Watching it right now. I don't worry too much about the inaccuracies of equipment showed. The main focus is the leaders and the deals brokered back and forth. It's quite a good series IMO. If Hitler doesn't betray Stalin, who knows how it turns out?

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll definitely give it a listen. Big fan of Eastern front lectures, as none of my professors were particularly well versed in it.

I just finished Blueprint for Armageddon. It is a good one. And Carlin is the best!
