So... who's here bashing on Peyton?
This thread is a waste of time, in the sense that the oly person on here who thinks that Manning is done is a poster who emotes (rather pathetically) and overexaggerates like a 12 year-old girl every time something remotely bad happens to one of his teams. Anybody with a brain knows how great Peyton Manning is and how much football he has left in him.
Now, the post above offers up some great points for discussion, especially his assertion that Manning is the greatest QB of all-time (which I disagree with big time, but I don't have time right now to spell out why I disagree). That's a great argument to discuss; saying Peyton Manning is great is like saying Notre Dame is beautiful...yawn.
Elways first 3 super bowls didnt have not one pro bowler on his team.
Two more things make him great that people overlook:
(1) He was the #1 draft pick, which, IMO, no other truly great QB has been. By definition he went to the very worst team in the league. There is a reason why QB busts like Jeff George, Joey Harrington, Akili Smith, Tim Couth, and David Carr, (Alex Smith? Andre Ware?) happen so often -- being a long term QB on a ****ty team is damn near impossible. (Compare that John Elway and Peyton's brother who both were drafted #1 and, knowing this, pouted their way to a trade).
Gotta give Polian a lot of credit for that too. He was able to get Peyton Reggie Wayne, Edgerrin James, Jeff Saturday, and the other contributors who have made this team a constant playoff contender and took them to 2 Super Bowls.
It's not a refusal. It's not being able to sign free agents because of money.
not any of those 1-5 are true 6 is thoughWhen considering the stats and wins, taking into account the fact that
(1) for 85% of his career he's had no running game,
(2) he's never had a good defense,
(3) the colts refuse to sign free agents,
(4) on any other team his WR's, with the exception of Dallas Clark and M. Harrison in his prime, would be mediocre,
(5) he's never had an above-average left-tackle, and yes I'm saying Tarik Glenn was never really above-average (or if he was it wasn't by much and was for at most 1-2 years)
and
(6) he continually has had to go up against the Patriots, probably one of the best teams of all time, then...
Peyton Manning is the greatest quarterback of all time. No other quarterback with stats even close to his has had to put up with *any* of the above listed detriments.

1 isn't true. With Edge, we had a moden day tripletts.
Polian NEVER signs free agents of any worth. He signed Adam Terry (who was cut before camp ended). THAT was his big FA signing.
I think Terik was a Legit LT.
But... Peyton makes Tamme, Stokley, et. al. look much better than they really are.
I'm all for homerism, but really? 2-5 are legit statements.
