http://www.thestar.com/News/article/200265. Now us blacks can't unpack our furniture without reading ignorant shyt. When will us in America every learn to ever respect each other? I just had a wedding with over 130 people. I would say it was 50- 50 black to white. I was born on Harlem. Raised in Newark N.J. If you watch the Soprano and hear them talk about black people ( I'm still a fan of though show ) that's was the way I was raised to deal with white people, to hate But I didn't let that effect me in life, nor do my children. But when I black person go to a establishment and spend there hard earn money, then find the couch they bought color was called N...ger Brown this is crazy.

Personally, I haven't seen much racism, but then again, I'm only in HS. The only time I've truly witnessed it is in jokes, but in that case, the joking goes both ways with everyone getting called out and everyone having a good time. I think racism has definately lessened in the past years, but some of the older folks seem to be racist, but they're from a different time.

I think people who truly are racist are disgusting, and in Texas, they are usually hicks with brown teeth, or none at all. However, I don't think every seemingly racist situation is racist; but in the case of the sofa, that is wrong, they just need to call it brown or something like that.

That's inexcusable regardless of which country it was manufactured in. Give credit to the mother in how she explained the situation to her curious daughter. IMO, the furniture company that sold it to her, could have exhibited similar class, in rectifying the situation themselves & at least, acted, outraged; instead of passing the buck to the supplier. No it wasn't their fault, per se; but how about raising some hell & threatening to expose this practice to other furniture dealers?

In other parts of the world that word doesn't have the stigma it does here. Translations also suffer sometimes from poor interpetation. There was a NIKE commercial 10 or 20 year ago with a bunch of locals in some country sitting around a campfire seemingly admiring a pair of sneakers. They spoke in their native tongue. The commerical was pulled when the company was advised that one of the guys was actually making a disparaging comment about the merchandise. Seems no one at the ad agency nor the company spoke the native language or checked to see what they actually were saying before airing the commerical.

Also keep in mind in Spanish and Portuguese Negro means black. It's derived from the latin word "niger" meaning black. Considering Portuguese colonial history in China it's not improbable that niger with one or two "g"s got translated for black. Looking at the photo in the article that couch looks more black than brown.

The label while appearing rude here, isn't necessarily malicious.

Unless, some redneck from South Carolina did the translating.

BGIF, aren't you African American? I just have to ask because I always understood/ assumed you were for some reason and that makes this conversation a bit more interesting... espec. from onenybrother's perspective I would imagine

That's pretty sad what they did, if it was not the act of one jerko. My next couch is gonna be either cracker white or nip yellow.
