The love/hate word: "we"

I personally say "we" or "us" all the time in reference to ND. I can't help it. Part of it could be the 'us versus them' mentality that's grown on me since I've grown up as one of the few Irish fans in Columbus.

So it doesn't annoy me when I hear an O$U fan use the word 'we' when talking about O$U football. Nor would it annoy me if I heard another ND fan do the same.

But I know many people do find it annoying, so I decided to create this poll.

I say it all the time cause i like to let people know that i am a fan of Notre Dame. If i say that Notre Dame is going to have a good year, then people will think that I am just a football fan, but if i say we are going to have a good year, people know i am a Notre Dame fan which is something im very proud of.

If you are solid towards one team (The way it should be) then I think "we" is acceptable

I think it is okay to use "we" (or not use "we") as long as it is done consistently.

For instance saying:

"They played poorly against Michigan State Last Year" and "We played well against Southern Cal"

is clearly not okay, IMHO.

I use "we" to refer to my high school and college alma maters. I do it every so often when talking about the White Sox.

It all depends on perspective... I went to ND so I feel a special affinity with it. Many Sub-Alums tell me they don't feel comfortable using "we" when I am around.

I tell them, if they care enough and are big fans...they are part of the family. After that, they always use "we" around me.

i've felt similarly....i've been a lifelong ND fan, yet i never went there. i've always worried about being disrepectful to those that did. but i appreciate LOVEMYIRISH's sentiment.

Isn't annoying at all to me. I do it just because I LOVE ND and I am one of only a few loyals out here in this arm pit of America with any God blessed taste.

It has an air of pretention about it since we are not actually ON the team. (I guess) I personally don't feel that way, but I can see how people would.

Sure, we're not going through hell with camp and conditioning, but I think the players know that the fans (students, alumni, and subway alumni) are cheering them on to victory. I honestly don't think they'd care if a fan said "we" about the team.

I will gave you that. The only way I like to use we is when you are a part of the team. Or you have been apart of the team or the school. Then, I think it is ok to do.

Of course it is ok for us to use the term "we". There would be no Notre Dame football without the fans. We are ND.
