What are your thoughts on the race? Have you ever been? Where does it rank on your list of sporting events? Interested to see what the younger guys say.

Hinchcliff I think would be a good winner...that would be awesome. But the field is loaded this year.

Have you ever seen this race on TV? I've seen it in person but NEVER televised.

I've been 24 times. I've watched it on TV 26 times. Had a ticket for today but things didn't work out schedule wise. One of the few downfalls of living on the westcoast, just can't jump in your car and drive to the 500, the Derby or an ND game.

I'm hoping Marco can win one for the Andretti's, they're due like the Cubs. Otherwise I always root for AJ Foyt's guys. He was my hero when I was a kid and I worked for his sponsor, ABC Supply for a bit.

you have to be bsing...

Man, get back to the midwest...the Derby is fun too (certainly not the level of the 500). I'd like to by you a bear. And ND games speak for them self on this message board.

When is the last time a half a million people filled in anywhere? I'm not justifying the obvious more than that.

Okay, well I don't find this to be a strong argument at all. In fact, I'd say that the amount of people at an event is relatively inconsequential, especially in an age where people watch sports by television. I'm not saying the Indy 500 is boring or lame, but it doesn't captivate people like it used to. I asked 5 people yesterday if they were planning on watching the race today and the only person who didn't respond "Oh, is that tomorrow? No I don't think so." instead retorted with "What is the Indy 500?".

I'll take the Olympics over the Indy 500, but tastes and preferences and yada yada

I literally read sentence number one and stopped. If you want to debate take it elsewhere. The facts are what they are.

I went every year until I was 17 with my Dad. Only been 7 times since... 3 times as an ABC Supply employee. Also went to the US Nationals in Indy every year too. My Dad was a semi-pro drag racer.

That is awesome, thanks for sharing....really cool.

It is always well packed but not like this year...as noted, I'm watching it on TV which is a first in my life.

I'll agree with that.

When I was a kid (the 70's) Indy was king. ABC's Wide World of Sports made it so. The only thing close was a televised Muhammad Ali fight. The Derby, the World Series and the college football bowl games w/ NC implications and the Final Four since Bird & Magic were the next level down.

Until you walk into the place, you have no idea what it's like. You think there's a lot of people walking into a ND game? Multiply by that by 4. You can't explain it to someone, you have to experience it.

...and when all 33 cars come down the straightaway at the start, it's not just a sound they make... it's a physical force that goes through you. Also, when you've only watched it on tv and then go to see it live, you can't be prepared for how fast they go.

I've been to a lot of major sporting events. Nothing beats Indy. Seeing ND beat USC in person is awful close however.

Agreed. I however am on a 6 game losing streak going back to '97. I've turned into Eddie Mush.

Personally, I'd much rather ND putting the steal toes to USC face.

The 500 is the greatest spectacle.
