Hello to all my fellow Irish faithful, I decided that I have seen enough negativity to last an offseason. Now I am not the kind to blindly wear rose colored glasses and say everything is just peachy, however I do feel that we have fallen victim to contageous negativity. I know that we all have had Irritable bowel moments the last two years, (some of us last 15) but it is time we look forward. None of us really know if Charlie is going to be the coach we all want him to be. All we can do is make a guess based on past behavior, and trends. Charlie has struggled with this team for two years yes, but most of us that are calling for his head, were the biggest supporters in 2005. This is a business of what have you done for me lately and lately it has been rough, but none of us can predict what he is going to accomplish (good or Bad) in this Bowl game, or next year. I feel like I am ready to look at this program with the same eyes I would expect my employees look upon my leadership, that there is a plan, and it will be executed properly. I am not saying we can't voice or concerns or be upset, trust me, my wife has to deal with my roller coaster emotions everytime the Irish take the field. I do think IMO that we should look what a win does for us. Yes it is Hawaii and we are still Notre Dame, but in the grand scheme of things, the Irish team needs to find out that they can win, find out ways to win, and then expect to win. Think about the pride they will have from breaking the horribly publisized losing streak in our bowl games. They can be special with a 7-6 record. Now think how much confidence that puts into this program leading into 09. Offseason is more effective, moral is higher, and a team that was doubted by its own fans, can have the us vs the world mentality. Charlie will be around next year regardless of whether we like it or not, so what shall we do; throw stones.....or middle fingers at our rivals? I know my finger is warmed up...what say you?
This could be just blind fanaticism, but I believe Charlie can make it happen, just think what offseason knee surgeory will do for his personal agility yelling at refs.
Sorry this was so long

Good post, and I agree. Charlie isn't going away until next season at the earliest, so lets just get behind ND football until then. I DO, however, take issue with one statement you made.

None of us really know if Charlie is going to be the coach we all want him to be.

Empirical evidence tells us precisely what we need to know. He's a great frontrunner - when the talent is there are has learned fundamentals, he can take them to the next level. He lacks the ability to take raw talent and make it into that first level you need. I know that. I have observed that. So I do in fact know he is not the kind of coach we want him to be. You CAN support the team, and acknowledge your shortcomings at the same time; its not a mutually exclusive proposition.

But that aside, great post, and generally, I agree. Lets go IRISH!

Thanks for the reply, and you make a convincing agrument, the only thing I can think of to remotely dispute that claim is that in his pro career, ( and they are pros not college kids) he had a pedigree for taking normal talent at position and coaching them up as stars. I guess that is the hope I hold on to. I am hoping he just hasn't found a way to completely reach these youngsters.

I was never excited about his hire or his offense, but thought he did well with what he had his first two years. I understood the "cupboard was bare." I don't think fans understand the significance of that. It takes time to truly rebuild, especially under ND's standards and CW's less than impressive offensive scheme - and yes, I blame the offense entirely on CW and not Latina, Haywood, Powlus...

As un-gung-ho as I was about his hire and his first two years, I find myself a CW supporter. He needs to finish the next two years, but if next year is a flop, then he needs to resign.

I like Charlie...I want him to win...as for this bowl, and its meaning...first and foremost, I'd love for these seniors to have the distinction of winning the first bowl in 15 years because every other "distinction" associated with these guys has been dubious at best...and I'll spare you all from the recount of the dubious. Second I want Charlie to do something brilliant on Offense to keep the recruits coming...third I am hoping against hope the Zone block evaporates, or suddenly clicks with these kids...and finally, I hope Jimmy has his head on right, makes some audibles (correctly), makes all the tough throws, and no picks. I'd have a wish for the Running backs, but I am already asking for a hell of a lot, and adding a running game to my christmas list is just greedy.

Nothing wrong with being greedy when all you are asking for is basic equity.

If you don't ask, you don't receive. :)

The kids go to Hawaii, have a great time and win a bowl game. All of the sudden they've finished 7-6 after going 3-9, a four win improvement. A bowl win would be an elixir for the program. All of the pains of the last two years would be put to rest and CW would be the first coach to win a bowl game in quite some time.

We fans could head into the next eight months of no ND football with a good taste in our mouths. Like going to a restaurant and having a crappy entree but a wonderful desert. Subconsciously you may resolve never to eat an entree there again but in the forefront you'll think of the restaurant when you want desert. The football team could accomplish the same with a bowl win, we'd have the scars from some painful games in the back of our minds but in the forefront we're thinking "bowl win" and four win improvement.

Lets all root for ND....there's nothing else to do if you're a fan.

We all have to get behind the boys. For Pete's sake, I NEED this win. Badly. As we all do. I cannoy handle another crappy performance, followed by all the U$C Thug fans talking shit to me for another 8 months. Like some of you, I'm putting ALL my support behind Charlie, because at this point, he's sticking around, so what else can I do? (Well, I lied, I'm TRYING to put all my support behind CW. After the Navy and Sryacuse debacles, it's been beyond tough). But if we lose to the Rainbows, it's gonna be a looooonnnnng offseason for all of us, esp CW.

LET'S GO IRISH!!!

Good post, but I think a better restaurant simile would be going to a place that has the best ingedients, but the chef doesn't put them together well and only knows like two or three recipes. And, to top it off, you get bad service.

I am just kidding.

My priest came to me for therapy.

I molested him. I spun my head around, floated up off my bed, and vomited green stuff on him and I called him"Marin".Then just for kicks, I made myself appear as an old woman and cried ""Demi....why you do this to me Demi...why!"

I was bored that day.

Wow. OK. Back to the thread, I really think that a bowl win would do wonders for the program as stated before. We really were only 3 - 5 plays from having 2 more wins. With that in mind and a bowl win, I would think that shows progress and would be in line with what alot of us predicted. I am drinking the Kool Aid (choking it down but drinking it)
