Fenway is too small for football, look at what happened at Wrigley

Fenway is only 7,000 less than BC's Alumni Stadium and they could double the ticket price.

What happened at Wrigley?

There wasn't enough room and one of the end zones was right up against the right field wall. It was a major health hazard if a team was throwing into that end zone, so they decided that both teams would try to score in the west end zone and they'd switch sides after every possession. It was weird.

Especially weird because the Bears used to play at Wrigley Field. I believe I saw a picture of the park with the gridiron going north/south instead of east/west. I can't remember what's changed ... they moved the stands closer or something to get more seats in there? (Maybe the people at Bristol will take a page out that book.)

Would it help if you oriented the field perpendicular to the oval?

That would probably be worse.

Haha, it would! I just googled it, and apparently when the field was oriented north/south, the south end went right into one of the dugouts, which was dangerous, and the north end was still up against the wall:

The football field ran north-to-south, i.e. from left field to the foul side of first base. The remodeling of the bleachers made for a very tight fit for the gridiron. In fact, the corner of the south end zone was literally in the visiting baseball team's dugout, which was filled with pads for safety, and required a special ground rule that sliced off that corner of the end zone. The end zone was also shorter than the north, as the south end zone was eight yards, compared to the regulation ten yards.[32] One corner of the north end line ran just inches short of the left field wall. There is a legend that Bronko Nagurski, the great Bears fullback, steamrolled through the line, head down, and ran all the way through that end zone, smacking his leather-helmeted head on the bricks. He went back to the bench and told Coach "Papa Bear" George Halas, "That last guy gave me quite a lick!" That kind of incident prompted the Bears to hang some padding in front of the wall.

It's a shame because it was ****ing sweet to have college football in my neighborhood. I was really hoping it was going to be a big success and a yearly thing.

This is such a cool idea. Not an ideal place to watch a football game but that's not the point.
