Ted Lilly is the reason Shark should play in the MLB and not the NFL. $10 million per year gauranteed? Ted Lilly?

How much is Zito going to get?

yeah no kidding... not that it's easy but the physical punishment one takes in baseball is nowhere near football either...

Zito will be interesting...

There is talk that Zito will get at least 15 mill/year. He probably should go to the NL since his fastball only clocks in the mid to upper 80's

lilly will benefit from the national league. Its harder to hit in the national league and on average, the parks are bigger. I am a diehard cubs fan, and even though i dont' really like that they signed him, it might end up being a plus. Shea, Wrigley, RFK, Busch, Turner, Dodger Stadium, Petco are extremely tough to hit in. The short parks are Tropicana, GABP and i guess we can throw coors field in there. He will be fine, and there is no DH so that helps a lot.

yeah, but he one the Cy Young throwing that big curve. I think in the end he goes to the Mets for about 15-17 mill a year.

I can't explain it. I threw up when I heard about it.

Gil Meche signs with KC for 5 for 55 million. The guy had 11 wins last year with a 4.65 era, WTF.

All the years of not spending money, and the Royals finally break out the check book too get an average pitcher. Wow KC fans must be so excited.

Lilly is solid back of the rotation guy, I remember him with the Yankees I think he benefited greatly from Roger Clemens tutledge. Roger made him workout with him and Lilly ended up throwing up halfway through the workout. Roger's workouts are legendary.

Still alot of money for a guy like him though, but the Cubs should contend this year if Wood and Prior can get healthy. Cards only won 83 games last season.

Ted Lilly is a good pitcher

Ted Lilly is a good pitcher

Ted has had an excellent Batting average allowed.
Over the last few years he has not given up very many hits.
If put on a team with some decent hitting, he will do well.
I wish that the Yanks had brought him back home.
In a rational market he's a $6 million dollar pitcher; but when losers like Adam Eaton are getting upwards of $8 Mil a year, he is a decent bargain.

Good start, but the Cubs need another average starter (Suppan/Marquis) and some luck with health. Or just to say f it and go spend what you need to get Zito and go for it.

Who else is out there? We don't want to throw rookies out on the mound 3 out every 5 starts like we did last year. Lilly is solid. He isn't that flashy but he eats up innings and gives his team a legit chance to win. He's got a decent curve ball and he will benefit from our soon to be potent lineup. I'm happy with the aquisition.

sure you don't rookies on the mound every other night and Lilly is somewhat solid, but 10 million? wow

well he'll probably just get hurt and fit in fine with your crew. in this market he has a pulse and he's left handed, time to get some cash. i dont know off hand the cubs rotation but arent prior, wood, and zambrano all righties? makes sense at 6 million as someone said but its just the nature of the beast.

Jim Hendry had angioplasty yesterday when he balanced the Cubs' checkbook and realized all the money he dumped in the past month.

Cubs are going nowhere with that guy.

I'm done defending the Cubs. Whatever you guys say, Soriano won't help I mean everybody hits 46 home runs and steals 40 bases huh? We should have just watched him go to the yanks or somebody. There is no way he'll help us. Now, I agree Lilly doesn't deserve 10 mil a year but he will help us. We are not depending on Prior or Wood. That is why we are signing all these pitchers. The market is bigger than it has been the last few years. Teams are going to have to overspend for a lot of guys. How about the Red Sox paying 51 million to Matzuzaka and they prolly won't even sign him, now that hurts.

Jigga what do u think about the Garcia trade? U got some solid young arms back but I thought for sure u'd get at least Rowand. There is no way u r trading Garland right? We were dumb enough to trade him to u guys. Don't make the same mistake.

gio gonzalez is probably the best pitcher in the phillies minor league system now that hamels is out. floyd was promising but i think you can put him on the garbage heap for now. who gets the best side of this trade really depends on how garcia pitches this year. if he is a solid middle of the rotation guy, i think the phillies get what they want. he's losing velocity though. dont count too much on floyd but gonzalez has some upside.

Lilly has looked like a pretty good pitcher against the Red Sox for years, and moving to the National League is just going to make him look like a better pitcher. Not that bad a move.

Cubs fans should take heart in the fact that they aren't paying Clement basically the same money.

As for the 51 million, I believe the Sox get it back if they can't sign Matzu (and no one else can sign him for a year).
