Maybe because I'm around it, but this is a big deal for us Louisianans. Before I start I will say that I graduated from LSU, but I always try to stay unbiased (even with ND, which is my first true love in CFB).

I'm in the camp of not suspending him (if there is anyone else here), as of now. Everything is he said she said. I think Les should wait until the BRPD comes out with their findings. Otherwise, you are just suspending a kid for going to a bar. There are now reports that the fight was about Jefferson being with this guy's ex-girlfriend and she had a restraining order on the ex. I think it's all a mess and until things get sorted out let him play. Innocent until proven guilty, right?

I am not sure there are a few things working against him. The first, he is said to have kicked a person while they were down, which sent him to the hospital. More than one eye witness has identified him. The cops searched his apartment and took all of his shoes to match a shoe print on the victims shirt. Also, he was suppose to be in his room for curfew at 10:30 and was seen out at the bar at 2 AM. Kind of late, that right there should be punishable by at least not starting the first series.

Maybe that is harsh for missing curfew but if he missed curfew and is not in the midst of an on going investigation. Then something should be done in my eyes.

I never heard the curfew thing. Obviously, then he needs to be punished for that, what that is I don't know. Otherwise, like I said, this is still speculation. If they find all this to be true then something needs to be done.

Any coach who isn't a scumbag immediately benches said player for this.

There are eye witnesses saying he kicked someone in the head while they were on the ground...

If I'm his coach he's sitting.
Even if he's the best player in the conference.
But I have morals. Les Miles clearly doesn't.

Check out this article, GoldenDomer87.

I know every LSU fan is doing their best to impeach the testimony against their players right now, but it doesn't look good for Jefferson. I've yet to read or hear anything remotely credible that excuses his conduct.

Further details can be found in this article.

From a legal standpoint, even if Lowery turns out to be a mentally unstable creep (which could be attributed to PTSD, so be careful with your assumptions), Jefferson's kicking him in the head while he was down is still a felony.

I completely agree with your reasoning. However, considering the police investigation, I would not be at all surprised if a warrant for his arrest is issued in the near future, in which case Miles's hand will basically be forced.

I wouldn't suspend anyone until charges came down AND I examined the evidence. Duke lacrosse is the perfect example of why you don't jump to conclusions.

Thank you. That's what I was trying to get across.

Whiskey: I know it LOOKS bad, but the shoes could come back negative and the witness could be lying. All I'm saying is, let it play out. I'm not making excuses for anyone. If the BRPD comes out and charges him, he needs to suspended.

Totally agree. I would never advocate jumping to conclusions.

It just looks really bad for Jefferson; there are multiple eye-witness accounts that all corroborate each other, and even if the anti-Lowery allegations turn out to be true, it still doesn't improve Jefferson's situation much.

Looks bad, but I'd hold off on the suspension. Can't punish someone who may have done nothing wrong.

And Oregon didn't suspend their QB when some teams may have. Might as well keep the playing field as even as possible.

Call me cynical, but it wouldn't surprise me if he was allowed to play vs. Oregon while Miles was 'investigating'. Then magically, he'll be done investigating in time to suspend him for one game, their second game, which happens to be vs. Northeastern State.

For missing curfew, he should not start. What kind of team leader is he, hanging out at a bar at 2 a.m. way past curfew??? And if anything else comes of it, he should be suspended (esp if the dude was a Marine!).

And this is a timing issue. If Floyd got his DUI last week, he'd be suspended for the first game, no doubt. But he already took his suspension b/c it happened in March. If Jefferson turns out to be heavily involved, LSU will have to act and eventually suspend him (you would think)...

In my opinion thes kids need to start being held accountable for their decisions. He made the decision that put himself in that position by missing curfew....which I'm sure there is a team punishment for. As for punishment for the bar fight I'd wait for the authorities to do finish their investigation. Once again if it's proven that he kicked the kid in the head while he was down and was the cause of the injuries he made that decision and should be held accountable and punished according.

Yes people should be accoutable for their actions.

The missing curfew isn't really an issue. From the reports I read, the team members were present for bed check after their last practice of the preseason camp. Then, as is tradition at LSU, the players bolt en masse for a night on the town. Kind of hard to punish someone for participating in a TEAM EVENT.

What happened on their field trip is a whole other thing.

Hot Off The Presses!

Hot Off The Presses!

Eyewitness accounts coming out in LSU bar fight investigation | NOLA.com

August 25, 2011, 10:48 PM
By Jim Kleinpeter, The Times Picayune

The mood around the LSU football team and quarterback Jordan Jefferson darkened Thursday, with the worst news perhaps yet to come. As the Baton Rouge Police Department investigation into an Aug. 19 bar fight involving four LSU players continues to focus on Jefferson, the BRPD had to dispel a rumor Jefferson's arrest was imminent.

But a police report made public Thursday - nearly a week after the incident and on Jefferson's 21st birthday - quotes a witness as being "certain" Jefferson kicked alleged victim Andrew Lowery in the face.

That revelation came a day after police took a DNA swab from Jefferson and confiscated 49 pairs of sneakers from his Baton Rouge apartment as evidence. Police would not say why they wanted the shoes but a source close to the investigation said police were looking to match a shoe to a shoeprint on one of the victims' shirts.

The events kept fans and the school reeling with the start of the season eight days away. No. 4-ranked LSU is set to meet No. 3 Oregon in a monumental college football clash at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Sept. 3.

LSU Coach Les Miles, who also learned that starting wide receiver Russell Shepard will not be available for the game because of an NCAA violation, refused to speculate on whether Jefferson would be suspended for the game before a legal decision was reached.

He said practices have continued on schedule with all four of the accused players participating.

With all the talk about athletes being paupers, how does one afford 49 pairs of sneakers?
