As usual, Wetzel's article was amazing and spot on.

If I could push a button, I would do a 16-team playoff. An auto-bid for every conference winner (mid-to-low tier programs wouldn't have to flee to "better" conferences), and the entire system will be flushed with tons more money. I know that's what Wetzel wants.

They do, but don't get on here and act like the kids are getting raped. They get a full ride and an education. Thats their compensation, and its perfectly legitimate. If they hate the "evil administrators" of colleges so bad, they don't have to go. Sorry, not feeling bad for them. I had to pay every dime of my undergrad and grad degrees.

I never said the students are getting "raped" so please do not put words in my mouth. I do however feel that the colleges are greedy, and money hungry, just like any other business. While some may place the kids welfare higher than others, at the end of the day all this "Superconference" nonsense is about one thing, and one thing only MONEY Its not about feeling bad for the students its about feeling that the only difference between the NFL and NCAA is the fact that the athletes dont get paid in college. I bet some colleges actually make more money than some NFL teams when its all said and done. So basically in a nutshell what I'm saying is Greed is the motivating factor in all this conference bs. Sorry for any confusion my posts may have caused.

No argument there.

Big 12 schools agreed to surrender Tier 1, 2 TV rights to conference for 6 years. Big move. More ironclad than an exit fee.

And just like that, the Big12 is stable. Crazy.

Now if they can get around to replacing the BCS with a playoff, CFB might be saved from the Armageddon of major realignment forever.

The only thing that sours the schadenfreude is their presence in our most likely superconference destination if and when the Great Realignment occurs.

So does the ACC. Poaching a couple of middling at best fb programs, and for what? Its not like, wow, they are a much better conference now.

Pretty sure the ACC is suffering from a serious case of buyer's remorse, actually.

The Big 12 has NOT agreed to a 6-year grant of rights. They're just talking about it, according to two people. Boards need to vote still.

RT @Dave_Matter: Here's my humble analogy: Big 12 members have agreed to see a marriage counselor but no guarantee it'll save the marriage

Its gonna happen, though. Nobody there has any leverage or anywhere else to turn, except for Texas, and its pretty clear they want to be in charge of things. They won't get that anywhere else.

Wait till I get going. Notre Dame will never join the ACC, or Big 10. They will form their own superconference consisting of only themselves. We should be national champs soon after.

Hell, I could have told you we'd never join the B1G... Too much bad blood there.

I agree. If I had to pick one I'd say join either the ACC, or Big East. I think ND could single handedly save the Big East, and even attract teams like Navy over. I like the competition better in the ACC, but ND already has its baseketball in the East, so it would be a smooth transition. IDK, we shall see one day, but not today.

The Kansas City Star is reporting that Deaton is stepping down from the chair of Big 12, and Missouri is considering joining the SEC.

Sorry, as a newbie, I can't post links or attachments.

Mass exodus from Big East to Big 12 possible. Big East would at least lose its AQ status; might even cease to exist as a football conference.

You thought this was over?

a bib 12-big east merger makes sense. Plus it will open up a bcs bid for another deserving Non-AQ or Notre Dame

The BCS has stated that they would be fine with 5 AQ conferences, and wouldn't immediately move to promote another conference. I can't think of another conference that would be remotely worthy of an AQ bid, anyway.

Its terribly interesting. Wonder where ND olympic sports would go? If Big East lives on as a non-football conference, well, then thats just fine. If the Big East folds TOTALLY then we have some decisions to make.

Thats what I was thinking too. If TCU and Utah didn't bolt it would have been the Mountain West for sure but...
