At the begining of the season I predicted 6-7 wins and HOPEFULLY a bowl win and have hundreds of posts to back that up... I got caught up in ours boys early success like everyone here and was as upset as the average fan with the second half of the season, but now with a full body of work and I can state my opinon is that this is a successful season. Come on, coming off a 3-9 HORRIBLE campaign last year???... Also, I have felt for a long time that ND first mustwin a bowl, ANY BOWL, before they can become truely legit again... so yeah, I know some will disagree and thats fine... I consider this season a success

Another thing, I have been thinking for three years (honestly I have thought this since the moment JC committed) that ND's TRUE comeback year (never bought into fully on the last upteen of them) could FINALLY be the 2009 year... NEXT year

sorry for the wordyness I am on vacation and I have found it a pain to post mutiple points on my lab top so I just threw them together... BTW, those PMing me over the last week forgie the lateness, I can only check in onceevery two days or so until the 2nd...

well, after that display during the bowl game...i'd agree that it's a successful season. these boys played one of the loosest games i've seen them play and i'm hoping that translates into a great season next year.

go irish!!!

the bar is set for next year - top 20 finish (not top 25), sugar bowl or better, and a win in that bowl game. anything less is regression.

If you don't look at the details (lucky win over SDst or loss to Syracuse) I think the bowl win puts it into the success category. IT is hard to forgive a home loss to Syracuse and the slide the second half of the season. I am excited to see more new faces getting more play next season. If we can continue to improve especially in the running game we are in. I will chalk up three of our losses to FG kicking and call it a day.

With the bowl game domination I will agree overall. Success and may 09 bring a running game!

I'll never be convinced that 6-6 is a successful season. The bowl win is very nice, no doubt. But it just goes to show that we should have done that to 'Cuse and probably Pitt and UNC, too. If you're looking at the entire body of work this season, you can't discount the multiple times that the team either didn't show up or quit early. Not tryint to take away from the bowl win, which I am very happy for, but just saying it didn't negate the entire regular season.

i'm just trying to stay positive, so the coulda shoulda woulda shouldn't necessarily make for a bad season.

we had young pups playing and they happen to come up short a few games....yeah, we coulda been 9-3 if we closed out those few games. but hey, they closed out the season on a high note, gained some confidence for next season and gained more practice time to improve upon.

so, with the young guys we had and for them to gain even more experience and with the recruited talent we have coming in for added depth. i'm so looking forward to next season.

granted i know that i was pretty down after the loss to syracuse, but i've sinced turned over a new leaf....it's called guiness and it makes me happy. :)

I said my only goal for the season was a bowl win. To me it was a success. Next year the goal is 10 wins and a BCS game win.

i never saw the things i was looking for this year. i never saw the attitude, i never saw the emotion, i never saw the anger and distaste for the other team.

i did see alot of missed tackles, missed blocks, lack of team unity, people jogging out of the locker room after the rest on senior day instead of coming out like a team.

there are certain things you MUST DO WELL and the ones we are NOT doing well are the most important out there. we never did those things this year, therefore i am thoroughly disappointed in the season.

there was one point where i thought we may be turning the corner with these things. that was the washington game, i simply didnt realize just how bad that washington team was. we also to a certain extent showed a tiny bit of those things in the bowl game, however that was also a very poor hawaii team.

the team just seem pussified at this point in time, it was worse last year and had been getting worse for 2 years before that, so at least we arent regressing but this is one of those things that needs to be fixed in the offseason.

Really?! A successful season? I am one ND fan who would never ever consider 7-6 successful, and i would figure that the ND players wouldnt either. And as for all of us who are so PUMPED about the bowl win, which i agree it is great to end the streak, the Notre Dame that used to dominate every year would have never accepted such a bowl game. This should NEVER be considered a successful season, ever. For all those who think im just being negative, trust me when i say that i bleed blue and gold. Im sure Weis and the players dont think its successful, God forbid our fans start considering seasons like this acceptable. When we accept average, we start expecting average. When we expect average, we are truly losers.

+1. I am not sure when suddenly 7-6 becomes acceptable. I am not negative, this is the truth. And don't tell me that most of you were wondering if we could beat Hawaii.
This is the play we should have seen all year, we saw flashes of it but that does not win you games. The second half collapse was just astounding to me. Giving up several double digit leads and losing to Syracuse was unacceptable.
