His ban is for 5 days. Those comments were completely uncalled for. This website exists to support the Notre Dame community - he did the exact opposite. I've been told by him that I will be negatively repped everyday because I'm a "biotch".

This tragedy deserves our condolences for the student and his family. Let's keep this thread about the situation at hand. We can debate about DS elsewhere.

Five days for the mockery of the death of someone's child...... I'm at a loss.........

I will not justify Dirty's comments. But a veteran's attitude after only 18 posts and membership since September of 2010 hardly makes your understanding of Dirty's personality complete...

He has certainly not been his usual self lately. But I feel this is just as of late. His comment was a bad joke. A very poorly placed joke at a time of grief. Poor timing. Bad joke. Careless. Cold. Wrong.

But he has added in the past. I cannot judge him, lest I want to take on the same judgement. I will support our moderators. But, Dirty Secret: Come on man. WTF? You know better than that.

I haven't been my usual self lately. Losing sucks. We are better than this. Outplayed this year: yes. Outclassed: never. Us fans should live by that.

Surely do not want to get into a pissing match with you or anyone else on this board. So, I will say that if I have misjudged DirtySecret, then I apologize both to him, and you if I have offended you.

As far as "taking a veteran's attitude" concerning his personality in light of my relative newness to this board, I fail to see the relevance. The comment was, as you state, "poor timing, bad taste, careless, cold, wrong." Recognition of those accurate words doesn't require having posted here 10,000 times, or ever.

Again, however, if I have jumped to a conclusion, or have offended anyone by my indignation for those remarks, I sincerely apologize.

I've had to work on top of planes and on lifts, and when it was 25mph we we're told to get off. No idea why he would be up there during 50mph winds.

my prayers are with the family. Deeply saddening

ditto...been on radomes (the radar persuasion)...been on Big smoke stacks...anything over 20 is bad news...man I'm sorry for the kid and his family...

You haven't misjudged him. He's an idiot.

Back on topic. I'm sure they'll do a moment of silence for him on Saturday.

First and foremost I change it. Secondly did you know the guy personally? If not get a grip. Do you cry when a little child dies of cancer in a 3rd world country?

There are very certain things you say in times like these your original comment was very far from that, have some sympathy for god sakes. How would you feel if that young mans parents read your original comment, think before you act.

What an awful accident. A student trying to be involved with the team, trying to help out Notre Dame that is a real shame. I can't help but wonder why nobody called the "shoot" off seeing that the wind conditions were clearly unsafe. It would be tragic if this accident was caused by a miscommunication.

I feel terrible for this kid and his/her family. This is just a tragedy.

With that being said, if he was up on that in 51 mph winds, someone needs to be fired...at a minimum. That is gross disregard for safety to send someone up there with winds that high.

I smell a lawsuit, unfortunately. I'm certain this is very bad for ND, in legal terms.

From Texas Tech's Policy and Procedure for operation of the scissor life:

c. DO NOT:
(1) Exert excessive side force while the work platform is elevated;
(2) Overload (the relief valve does not protect against overloading);
(3) Alter or disable limit switches;
(4) Raise the platform in windy or gusty conditions. (The manufacturer recommends not raising to full height or half height in windy or gusty wind conditions. The manufacturer follows a 20 mph wind speed as a guide. The manufacturer recommends not raising the lift if the wind speed is 20 mph or greater.)
(5) Elevate the work platform if it is not on a firm level surface; or
(6) Park the work platform on high traffic sidewalks that will impede foot traffic or wheelchair traffic.

Yikes guys.

Its annoying because it an absolute oversight. Complete lack of common sense. Where is his supervisor or any sort of staff oversight? Something so avoidable. I know accidents are accidents, but it was a college kid who didnt know any better and adults who didnt tell him what the hell NOT to do. So weak.

It was very gusty here today, but it was off and on. Peak gust was 51 mph at the airport, but it was much less than that most of the day. 20 or so mainly. Either way, not worth risking a life over.

I'm jealous. You live in Southbend. I forget. I have to find a way to make it back.

Sucks we lost this young fella. ND has to implement a JHA qualification for this thing or own the one they already have, damn-it!

It is much longer than that now. And not to disrespect the guy who passed away today, but this thread is a mess, and is being closed. A new one may be started if need be.
