I thought it was a little too frank. I imagine the source is Chad Bowden or someone like that. Comparing to other players in the same recruiting class or to others who are still on the roster seems like a no-win to me. Have to assume those players will read it.

My understanding is many thought once TAM offered, they also offered a bag. May have been trying to work behind the scenes too once he went off senior year and people realized he’s a dude

Looks like 247 is doing their final rankings update for the '24 class this evening. Rivals is some time this week. I am assuming on3 is soon to follow. Very curious to see how high KVA ends up.

Looks like rivals are releasing their today as well, KVA at #19 overall

Edit: nevermind, they are just releasing the 5 stars today, full rankings tomorrow.

Justin Scott at 13. Lightfoot from Illinois also a 5 star. Do those seem legit? We really do not do well with elite Illinois prospects

No, they all have a numerical grading system and there is a cutoff that distinguishes a 5-star from a 4-star. 247, On3, and ESPN all have a rating scale that goes up to 100 and their cutoff for a 5-star is anyone who achieves a 98 rating or above. Rivals has a weird 6.0 scale and their criteria for a 5-star is anyone who grades at 6.1 (I have no idea how they come up with 6.1). In all cases, the number of 5 stars can vary each year depending on the number of players who reach that 5-star threshold grade. Some years will have more than 31 5-stars, and some will have less. The number of NFL teams isn't a factor.

Edit: it looks like On3 limits the number of 5-stars to 32 but they appear to be the only site that does this.

You are right about On3 but their number seems to be 32 not 31 (32 matches the number of NFL teams). 247 has 32 5-stars right now but had 33 each in 2022 and 2021. The number of 5-stars according to their composite ranking also varies each year because they appear to use a numerical grading threshold. On3 appears to be the only site that limits the number of 5-stars to 32.

A lot of our guys went up in 247s grade even though some of their spots in the rankings dropped
