Starting WR's

I cannot think of any good reason why David Grimes and George West are on the depth chart at all. Can someone please tell me why we do not have our younger, faster, and more athletic receivers in position to start this year?

I hope there PT is significantly decreased. Last year they were not able to create any space between the defender which created more sacks than necessary.

I suppose Charlie Weis would be best able to answer that.

But to try to answer your general question. There weren't too many bright spots on offense last year in general. If an upperclassman was inserted into a spot, it's either because he won it or the players below him didn't do enough in practice or in game opportunities to take the spot.

I'm hoping the Freshmen can come in and contribute early. I'm also really interested in seeing how much Golden Tate has progressed.

Im seeing Kamara, Grimes, and Jackson. Jackson is the darkhorse since he was hurt last year.

Yeah, the offense was horrible at best last year. I think Grimes will end up being a good reciever before its over with. I just hope we can get Golden on the field somewhere. Anywhere.

i hate to speak negatively about David Grimes because he seem slike a good kid. Specifically on th field....the only reasons why i see him getting a lot of playing time this last year and this upcoming season is due to his experience, playing time, playbook and football sense and as a mentor to the younger guys. Do I think he is the most talented, no. But the young recievers are still raw and I think Charlie is preparing them to be in the spotlight for the next 2-3 years. I see Duval making a huge impact this season due to his tutelage from Grimes and a year of moderate experience under his belt. I think we'll see the same progression with Floyd this year as well. Hope I'm right

Tate needs to make a case for getting on the field more.
Floyd is a definite threat to start by midseason.
Pencil Kamara in as a starter.
Grimes and West have moments, as did Shark Jr.
I think we'll see Kamara, Floyd, and maybe even DWalk alot.

Until Tate learns to run better routes, he's not going to see much action. Kamara will be huge this upcoming season. If he shows the improvement I'm looking for, watch out. Grimes will be what Grimes is, he's someone who can bail out our young QB, but doesn't usually run by defenders. Jackson, and Floyd will be huge ? marks, and then there's West. Not sure what to make of him yet.

Guys, remember in most cases last year the WR didn't even have a chance to complete his route until the QB was on his back.

I agree...you cannot really judge any of these guys based on last year. I am just hoping the OL looking 200% better or we are in for another long year! Kamara should be great if Jimmy/Crist get time to get him the ball!!!

Golden Tate will be interesting this year UPS. I know he is tearing up the baseball field right now....I just wonder how much that will effect his development as well.

IMO, I see the younger players making a big impact by the end of the year. Floyd, Walker and Goodman are all legit full-time receivers. Kamara is definitely the only strong starter at the beginning of the year, and Tate should improve with another year of teaching at the WR position. West, Grimes, Paris and Jackson still have not showed the consistent play to lock up a starting job. Hopefully, one of these four upperclassman will step up and prove me wrong. I would bet on Grimes(needs to get separation) or Paris(catch the ball!).

If Robbie Parris spends some time working on those drops, he can be a real weapon as we've seen.

Floyd is going to start by seasons end, I'd also put Kamara and Tate on there with Grimes, West, Parris, and Jackson filling in as needed.

I actually think Floyd will start from the beginning of the season, hes quick, big, and has soft hands. I know some have reservations about starting freshmen but after last season with many of the freshmen like Neal, Smith, Williams, Hughes, playing very well my reservations are gone.

Also Floyd compliments Kamara well IMO. Floyd is the deep threat we need to scare opposing defenses.

I hoped one day Grimes and or West would fall into a Deion Branch type role in Charlie's offense but I dont see that happening any time soon.
Kamara will have a break out year, no doubt about it.
I think Parris has the potential to be a Samardzija but I think the younger talent will pass him up before he gets there.
Jackson has shown nothing and all I've heard about him is dropped balls.
I think its a shame dj hord ran into injury problems cause if not I think he would be a solid veteran reciever by now. Not sure if he can recover at this point.
Tate could be great if they could use him like they used the rocket but I think baseball will definitely hurt his progression this spring. Hopefully he proves me wrong.
I think Floyd and Walker can make immediate impacts and Goodman probably wont see the field this year. No matter what the future is bright at this position.

I say you will see a lot of Kamara, Grimes and Parris to start. By mid season Floyd and Walker jump past Grimes and Parris on the depth chart.

Nice first post, but I have to disagree. I honestly think Omar Hunter will make a push in spring, and probably will be the starting WR by the time we play Michigan (week 2).

HAHA! Oh man, could you imagine seeing a 6-2 300 pound Omar running a little slant?
Actually I think that's why he decomitted and went to Florida, I heard Urban Liar told him he wanted to use him at wide out...

I would love to put him as a full back, just let him loose and tell him to hit everything and anything in sight. By the end of the 1st quarter the starting linebackers for the opposing team would be injured.

I think Floyd will get some serious PT, if he isn't starting by mid-season. Walker, on the other hand, might not crack the 2 deep this year.

Omar puts on a little wait and he can be the QB for the Raiders.
