I have a question...

How many, if any, of our recruits will be converted to the 5* status during their senior years? Is this even possible? I think I remembered this happening in the past, but performance and measurables should have a lot to do with this...

Someone please learn me sunthin.

It is very rare for a player verbally committed to ND to have a rise in star rankings. Sometimes it seems like they drop a star or two just because they chose ND!

I would say Matt Hagerty can very easily become a 5 star. Incredibly athletic OT with a good frame to add bulk.

as for 4 stars

Jordan Prestwood should end up as a 4
Clay Burton is a monster and should be a 4
Jarret Grace is a borderline 3-4
Have only read about Rabasa but everyone says he is under rated

Lynch could be a 5 but i say very high 4

It happens more than you think, but not a whole lot where like 20 guys will get their 5th star. And yes, it even happens to ND kids from time to time. The last one I can think of (possibly the only one?) was Michael Floyd. He was a 4 star, and then completely lit up anyone covering him in the AA game (particularly a certain UM commit) and got his 5th star shortly thereafter.

If guys dominate during their senior season in a great league against great competition, they might get their 5th star.

And Junk, it's crazy how differently fans view these things. We all think ND gets screwed when it comes to rankings, and we cite plenty of examples. And you read other teams' boards and they talk about how ND gets the royal treatment, and they cite examples. Crazy.

Forgot about Floyd, you see huge jumps after big camps or all-ameriica games where players can be evaluated against elite competition.

I was certainly thinking Burton would be bumped, with Lynch and Heggarty as well. Koyak's measurables for a TE are rediculous. How does a guy that lanky have so much strength and speed at his age?

I was reading over at Rivals that they do not like giving 5 stars to TE. Rudolph was just a freak and an exception. Me and Fl posted practically at the same time about Hagerty, i would be shocked if he is not a 5 star. Rabasa and Burton are hurt because they get evaluated as 4-3 DE's

I can tell you this much about our kids this year: We have some ball hawking head hunters, and there will be results given this defensive group of studly up and comers.

I hope to see three or four converted to five star status, and I feel a few three star gents will make four star ranks.

Didn't Wood also change leagues his senior season and with the tougher competition didn't look as dominate?

I agree that Haggerty has the best chance at becoming 5 star...I beleive you are right NDinL.A. the only ND player I remember getting bumped to 5 * was Michael Floyd after he dominated the AA game. Funny thing ESPN after all that had him rated as the 9th best receiver that year lol.

Wasn't ESPN the only site to have Golden fairly highly ranked though? I have been very critical of them in the past ( and still and regarding most things) but after looking over the past few years I think they have done a very good job gauging most recruits.

I think Prestwood is going to dominate his senior year at OT and could see a bump. Either way he's going to be perfect for our system.

Obviously Lynch has the upside for it. He just needs some refinement and watch out.

In regard to Prestwood, the services are really waiting to see him at OT, he played TE, before they give him even more praise. Most are in agreement that there is incredible potential there, but they are waiting for some solid tape to prove their theories.

Lynch is a bit raw, and his school is relatively new, so I would imagine they don't have the absolute best coaching system in place, which can be another reason he isn't as developed as he could be. This is not to say we are getting a slouch, far from it! Not to knock their coaches, but I think it would be safe to assume that a new program wouldn't be cemented in the best ways of developing players on the high school level. Once he gets to ND and learns to add moves to his arsenal and refine his technique, this kid could be great.

Floyd was a high 4 star. He became a 5 star in their last eval period after he doimated the U.S. Army All-American game.

Two things,

-Notre Dame players have been five stars a lot lately, (Aldrige, Young, Clausen, Crist, Floyd, Teo, Johnson, Rudy just off the top of my head)
-Players committed to Notre Dame do indeed tend to fall if they move at all in the rankings... either by losing a star or by simply falling in the overall rankings... but it's not like ND players don't rise at all, they do all the time... but when you consider our records over the last four or so years the falls have seemed to be legit... the thing that gets me is Cowheard and others CONSTANTLY talk shit about how Notre Dame can't recruit and when they get a verbal, that kid instantly goes from some 1 star bum to a five star because scout and rivals wants to sell subscriptions, and that's the only reason we ever have nicely ranked classes... it's complete garbage.

Correct ESPN had Golden Tate rated as the #11 prospect overall and #2 WR. I also remember that Lemming was very high on Golden, but not as much as ESPN. Scouts and Rivals had him at 4 star, but not in the top 250.

I remember watching film on Golden and I fell in love. Duval and Greg Little were supposed to be a big time WR prospects that year, but watching Golden's tape I knew he was going to be a stud.

See I was wondering about that and I'm glad someone did the leg work for me! Now I think this could be the example of the bias working in ND's favor, as he committed to a quarterback guru in Charlie Weis, so it wouldn't be a huge leap to see him develop into a 5*. Hedging their bets, if you will?

I'll even go as far as to type when he got his fifth star. After the elite 11 camps, scouts liked him more and gave him the fifth star. They did the same thing to Blaine Gabbert after that camp.
