Starter Tory Jackson was 1-10 from the field. A pretty poor 2-10 would have made ND a winner.
Easy to jump on Brey but he doesn't shot the ball. 1-10.
As a team ND shot 46.5 from the floor without Jackson they shot 57.6.
Pretty sharp number for a crummy coach without the All-American star.
While I didn't see the whole game, I thought the team looked good and pretty cohesive without Luke - maybe I'd even say they play more like a team without him.
But, for probably the tenth time this season I was extremely frustrated with Brey's use of time outs. How can they seemingly never have any left in the final minutes of close games? It will be interesting to see how they grow or give up against Louisville. I think they'll be confident and play tough, maybe catching Louisville on a downer.
Anyway, I guess not much matters now until the Big East tourney; because at this point winning that is about their only realistic chance to get a bid.
Don't you have to actually use the bench in order to criticize his 'use of bench'?
.. brey will not recruit the star player who will play one year and leave..that is his problem as well..
ND is NOT going to issue a scholarship for the one year player. You need to find a different team as a change in coach isnt going to change the school's mission.
change the school's mission? to be a below average team.....plz dude...brey can't coach ball...get over it
".. brey will not recruit the star player who will play one year and leave..that is his problem as well.."
I didn't comment on Brey's abilities, pro or con. I responded to your point that
That's not Brey's call nor his replacement's despite your specious rant. No coach at ND can get a scholarship for the one year player.
“Even if it’s a highly talented player that you think has the potential to be gone in a year, that’s not a reason not to recruit them,” Swarbrick said. “We would not shy away from them for that reason, because you never know what will happen. Maybe they’ll find out that year they’re not ready. Maybe they’ll have an injury problem during that one year and they have to take a second or third year.
“What’s not okay for us, what won’t work for us, is somebody who is so sure that’s their path that they’re not going to engage in the academic side of the university. What you see with too many of those guys is they sort of do what they have to do for the first semester, and then don’t even go to school the second semester. They’re signed up for something – but by the time they’ve flunked out, the season’s over. Obviously, that’s not going to work at Notre Dame. We don’t have any interest in that and would never be in the mix for a guy who’s thinking that way – because one of the things we’re going to tell them is, you’re going to work hard on the academic side. You’ve got to be prepared to do that. And some number of people, they’re going to say, ‘Eh, I really don’t want to.’ ”
Swarbrick has recently spoken about this, and is allowing the "one and dones" to potentially come to ND.
