Today I learned IrishLion and I are about the same age. Always thought you were older than me for some reason.

On the day, I was in 7th grade Social Studies class with Mrs. Hixson as our teacher. It was 3rd period when our Principal Father Finlan got on the intercom to alert us of both towers and Pentagon being hit. It was already about 10:00, and our teachers turned the TVs on the rest of the day.

One of my classmates was an air-traffic controller on 9/11. He told us how surreal it was arguing with foreign inbound-pilots once US airspace was closed, and then eventually looking at nothing on the board. I remember walking outside of work and not seeing any planes coming or going (from HNL) and thinking about that one scene from "The Devil's Advocate" where Keanu Reeves is walking down a completely empty street. Just the oddest feeling.

I was talking with one of the docs in the hospital I was in, and he saw the second plane hit WTC, live on TV (about 3AM Hawaii.) He never left the unit, just sat there watching the TV in a patient room.

Mark Wahlberg was supposed to be on one of the planes too but slept in and missed the flight or some such...

One of my best friends was a UAL flight-attendant based out of SF. She was originally scheduled to work on UAL 93 (it was returning to SF) but got bumped. We freaked out for a few hours, because we couldn't get in touch with her.

I'd forgotten about that... how odd it was the next day or so to not see any planes.
