I'm not sure but they should do genetic research on why he's so much less talented than his twin brother.

I want to see them play against purdue before I rush to judgment. These players are very talented they just are used to playing cover two and were not asked to do that. Zeke scares me but even he will probably look better saturday.

There are just some "fans" that cant accept anything less than perfection.

Reality is the final score was 50 to 10. You will never find a defense to shut a team down to zero yards. Teams give up plays, thats why the game is played.

This defense is in no way, shape or form as bad as some of you negative nancys are making them out to be.

Out of every single snap taken, there will be some slips, some bad angles and poor technique by any young player. It amazes me that you "fans" go on suicide watch instead of focusing on the good of the game.

I recommend eye liner, my chemical romance and a razor blade for some of you.

Apparently discussing our team's weaknesses vs weakness itself is suicide worthy.

Who knew?

Most people are just trying to gauge how our team will look against stronger opponents. If that bothers you, then don't read it.

If me calling you over dramatic and fit for an emo crown bothers you, then its probably true. (In this thread anyways, you could be a swell guy that listens to hootie and the blowfish instead)

Exactly. Because we're raising questions against our team, we're either bad fans or suicidal.

I think it's moronic that some on here can't see the problems and weaknesses of their own teams. Even in a win

I can relate our defensive secondary to basketball very easily. When you play a team that is an excellent 3 point shooting team and is hitting their shots you end up playing more defense out on the perimeter and not so much down low. When the team has a big man that can dominate, you have more guys downlow working on keeping him out of the paint to hurt you. It's exactly what our secondary did against Navy, they were a run first offense and we eliminated that from our nose tackle all the way back to our safeties by playing run first defense. That was the game plan for the defense and they were lights out. Now we play a more traditional offense, we're not going to have so much emphasis on the run, but balance it more throughout our secondary. I thought Diaco layed out our defense of scheme to stop the run perfectly, and our defense did exactly what Diaco wanted. Our defense will play a more traditional style and I have a good feeling we are going to be in better position on these passing plays then we were for Navy.

Also, I'm not really overly concernce with what Purdue did in the first week, they had how many turnovers, and against what team did they play, exactly. I doubt E. KY was getting a quarter of the pressure we're going to be putting on Purdue's QB this week. TerBush may have looked promising, but that was with little to no pressure, lets see how they deal with our front 7, instead of the front 7 presented by Eastern Kentucky. From my understanding TerBush isn't starting right? So were going to have a QB shaking off some rust to start the game off, while our dline is still on a high from their performance last Saturday, I see us jumping out to an early lead and not looking back.

I definitly see our secondary having issues against a good passing team, but we won't see that until we make it to Norman, and even they have a shaky offense right now, most of their WR's are off the team or no longer with the team, a lot of unanswered questions with their passing game, should be our first solid test. I was not overly impressed with MSU and their new QB either. Yes our secondary needs work, but I don't think it's enough of an issue that will make or break a win, I think that's going to fall on our offense and how Golson can mature as the games and season continue. We are lucky enough with our schedule to have subpar passing Qb's (IMO) early in the season to help these CB's adjust.

I was more disappointed in Koyack's hands than I was the secondary... No one seems to be talking about that.

No one is talking about Koyack's hands because Koyack is a back up. They are talking about the secondary because they are starters. It's a legitimate concern, but people are way over-reacting, based on one small sample of play against an unconventional offense. There's not enough data on the secondary yet, to make a determination of how worried we should be.

The first pass Koyack dropped was too high, had too much zip and was slightly behind him. It was a poor pass to a wide open receiver, just exactly the type of pass Crist used to throw when he didn't two hop it.
The fault was Golson not Koyack. He is a tight end not a receiver. When your "normal" standard is two of the best receiving tight ends ever to play college football, you are being unfair to whomever comes after them.

He could have caught that ball. But he didn't. That was last week we are now facing Purdue. Hope fully EG makes a better pass next time and Koyack makes that catch. Show them the video learn from it move on.

so when we use 2 TE sets or even 3, one cannot catch? (irish1958, the first dropped pass was catchable, dont even try debating that, it hit BOTH of his hands, this is D1 ball at ND, you have to make that catch.)
meanwhile, kmoose, you are more worried about a secondary that was 95% committed to the run and putting the new corners on an island in press man-to-man coverage (which they rarely do in a traditional ND defensive scheme)...

makes sense I guess... to some.

Unfortunate RallySon was banned...

I guess I can only look to the creator of this thread (jonesman) and irishpat183 for some 2nd week discussion on how bad our secondary is.

I feel like we watched different games. Our secondary made measurable progress this week and came up pretty big against a team that gameplanned to pass against us. Are they dominant? no, absolutely not. But they were more than serviceable today? Yes, absolutely...

A bunch of chicken-littles up in here...
