Better take a look at this. Not good. From Rockne Roundtable on Blue and Gold.

Weis said today that "his injury is an injury that will be with us the entire year." he said it is now a question of whether he can or cannot play with it. after this week, he'll know whether Schwapp will be done for the year or not. He re-injured an old injury. My GUESS is that you won't see him back...redshirt season.

He was injured during the PSU game and had a little over 23 minutes of PT this year.

I'd say he's in a very similar situation to Rhema McKnight last year.

Here is what I know: Ace has been receiving treatment since undergoing the injury but has not responded well to it. He did practice today in full pads, however, he did not do any of the RB drills. To me, it sounds like he has a lingering type of injury.

Schwapp is now out for the remainder of the year per Weis at his Wednesday presser. I believe he will be having surgery to repair his knee. Man, that hurts.

This really is a huge blow.
He does qualify for a medical redshirt though? If so then that is some good news I guess.

too bad for Asaph. Lookin at the play again, it is awkward, Obviously he actually is quite hurt but just from reviewing it, it doesnt look that bad, I guess he might have just tweaked it that certain way. Or as was previously mentioned, it was a lingering previous injury.

According to Charlie on Wednesday, it's an old injury. He mentioned the knee locked up in practice once before but was fine after that. It locked up again in the PSU game. He mentioned scar tissue. He discussed eligibility and noted Asaph will not lose a year by playing in the second game of a 12 game season.

With surgery Thursday, Asaph is expected to be back for Spring ball.

This injury probly won't hurt too much until the USC game b/c I think Darius can run on pretty much anyone on the schedule until then, but man oh man is it gonna hurt against the talented linebacking core the Trojans'll be bringing to that game...

Charlie was kind of funny in the Weds. presser.
He said, "I decided I'm going to go fix Asaph's knee."
Huh? YOU'RE going to fix his knee?
I imagined Charlie standing behind the doctors, looking over their shoulders, with his playsheet in hand and headset on, calling the shots.
Is this his team or what?

It is obvious we already miss his pass blocking. Tough break but maybe it will open up some playing time for Schmidt. Speaking of Schmidt I assume he is being red shirted but havn't heard much about him. Anybody?

Per Weis, Luke has been progressing. Obviously, with Luke not seeing any PT yet this season, it could be a sign that Weis is wanting to preserve his eligibility.

I'd say start bringing Thomas back in the mix on running back. Especially for the USC game.

I had a similar emotion. "We've decided"

Reminded me of Alexander Haig's comment when Reagan was shot. Could have been better worded and taken out of context didn't look good. The difference is Charlie is in charge.

Per Weis, Luke has been progressing. Obviously, with Luke not seeing any PT yet this season, it could be a sign that Weis is wanting to preserve his eligibility.

In a press conference in the past week or so, Weis noted that ND does not redshirt. He then went on to note that everyone is track to graduate in 4 years and many in less time. He added that many guys that don't go on to the NFL want to get on with their careers. So a 5th year is not something he plans on. He's repeatedly said that they'll play when they're ready.

I'd say start bringing Thomas back in the mix on running back. Especially for the USC game.

Thomas got hurt throwing the key block on Lambert's game winning TD. His presence is sorely missed on the defense. ND would play less dime with Thomas healthy. Of the banged up guys Thomas is the least likely to play Saturday. His banged up ribs don't lend themselves to hits at LB or RB. Rather than weakening the defense to bolster the running game. Continued improved play by the OLine is the biggest need. And in the next 6 or 7 weeks the other backs can get their reps to improve their game. We're approaching the midseason, the spot where the younger guys usually start to contribute.

Weis comments on Asaph’s surgery:

It went well, but he won’t be back before the end of the year. It wasn’t as bad as we thought it was, but it was bad enough to end him for the season. The timeline right about now is for spring. They thought it was going to be cartilage and ligament, but there was no cartilage wrong. There was a ligament fixed. It wasn’t completely ruptured. It wasn’t as bad as we thought it was going to be but definitely bad enough to be out for the rest of the year.

If he's back for spring that's a pretty good deal. If they give him the McKnight Extra Year, so be it.

Time for Mr. McConnell to shine.
