Sanctions

i was just wondering if someone can explain this to me. First whats the point of sanctions when there not "discovered" until like 3-10 years later. most of the players in question are already gone. like Reggie Bush is gone but the school is going through the sanctions along with Mayo whos also in the NBA, or whats happening at Kentucky with the Bledsoe kid, and at Memphis with Derrick Rose and any other school going through it too.

the players don't care if a school suffers especially in basketball, there one and done, so they don't have any connection to the school.

it would be nice to see the NCAA and professional leagues team up to find a way to punish a kid for doing things "illegally".

and when it comes to college basketball i feel that you should be able to go straight to the NBA and if you do attend college they must go to there junior year.

sorry thats just my soapbox and somewhat question

I'm so sick of hearing this personally... I'm not aiming this at you M.I.... let me be clear... I hear this garbage so much when a school gets hit... The Todd McShays of the world who state clearly that they could give a shit about a schools academcis as long as they win always drop this when schools get caught... it's an excuse to let it go on...

1.) It's not just the players... it's the job of the school and the coaching staff to keep things under control. Part of that is not recruiting complete D Bags to your school who will "throw the school under the bus" as the original post eluded to... and it's their job to make sure the agents and boosters aren't role players within the program. I could care less if it's a completely different coaching staff and Admin... If you hold the potential of real sanctions over schools you won't have staffs and Admins looking the other way... they'll be on top of it. Since they often get away with it they don't....

2.) What would you do otherwise???... "Oh well, we didn't catch it in time, congrats, you got away with it."... There must be accountability within the INSTITUTION. The timeline should not matter if you get caught.

3.) "Oh someone think of the children" meaning the current players... well guess what, if a school attracts players willing to take benfits five years ago, and gets hot using those tactics then I can promise you many of those "victumizied" kids on the current roster chose that school for the same exact reasons... I have no problem punishing a dirty program now for what happened five years ago...

no hard feelings ACamp, i was just wondering , kids these days dont old tradition to the standard it should be held to and just care about money. but in all reality, for instance if a kid is out right now on his summer break at a bar/club and some booster or just a guy offers him a thousand dollars to stay his senior year or more, whatever the "deal" may be no one will ever know but the individual or any other person involved.

the only thing i find "suspicious" or funny for that matter is how these reporters "discover" things so far down the line, where were they when this was happen, my guess is they were just writing the story of how that particular althete was so go for the sport.

but once they get the chance to give a huge story about something they will do it, so really the reporters, athletes, and admin work together but indirectly because as the "great" part works out they all benefit, then when its over they can reap the benefits from that too.

i mean what do they lose? a season of wins which really amounts to nothing after the fact, or a couple of scollys but if there that big at the time those few dont matter either.

i just hope one day things can be caught when they happen rather then years down the road, because by that time comes everyone is gone. thats all im saying

I hear ya... but if they take a few schollys a year for three years... that's basiclly one entire side of the ball you are missing in year four on your two deep... THAT is a big ass deal in this game

I have a student who's mom works in Mike Garrett's office (I also taught her 2 older brothers) that I know pretty well and whom I've talked about on this site giving me some nice info on SC. I texted her at about 5 p.m. pac time and asked her if they had heard anything, and she texted back and said that they hadn't heard anything (as far as she knew) and that they were still waiting. And the waiting is KILLING them, and has been for the past month...

Good.

If SC has any sense Garrett should be tossed... I know he runs good programs but his only two moneymakers are about to get hit... he throws up banners for 'Championships' that weren't won from seasons that were played 70 years earlier because somestdents told him to do so... seriously imo he has taken a large chunk of credibility from what should be a fine school and shit on it. The guy is the perfect picture of what wrong with college sports.

after them going thru the debacle that was the 90's, alot of pressure began to build at USC. the pressure became so great, it turned into a 'win forever' win-at-all-cost attitude. Thats when they got all the crap, all the bush stuff, then the Mayo stuff. This happened under Mike Garretts watch, he is definitely responsible....if he didnt know, he should have known. Garrett should be s-canned, I mean, allowed to 'retire'.
