Rutgers?

Rutgers has a game tonight at home versus UCONN, and I dont want to jinx them, but assuming they win, does anyone think they can beat Louisville on November 11? It's a home game for Rutgers, and either way Louisville will be coming off an emotional game against West Virginia on November 2. If Rutgers ever does win out, and they are just one of two undefeated teams in the country, should they be ahead of a 1-loss team from one of the other BCS Conferences? Like an Auburn or Florida or Notre Dame?

Wow, that's a tough question but I would say no. If West Virginia and Louisville go undefeated I would say yes. I view them as another Boise St or Utah. But if they go undefeated and they play for the NC, I will not be upset.

Rationale: WV and Louisville have validated themselves by proving they can hang with the big boys. Whether this year or in past Louisville have played with the elite and beat the elite.

I totally agree. Schiano is doing a great job with that program. If he can keep some of them stud in the state, he would be a god here.

Anybody can be beaten on any given Saturday. I'm just hoping like hell that Louisville gets by WV. Brohm hasn't played all that great since coming back from his injury, hopefully the week off gave them enough time to get ready for this HUGE game and they put the pounding on WV. But getting back to your question, yes Rutgers could beat Louisville with the way they run the ball, good ball control. Should they be ranked ahead of any of the one loss teams? NOPE! Weak schedule compared to Fla, Auburn, and ND.

That program has been so crapped on for years, I am really happy for them. I realize they play a light schedule, but just imagine how proud those kids are...their parents too. They will remember this year for the rest of their lives. I hope that they do win the Big East...what a crowning achievement that would be.

I gotta agree too. Clearly, I'm biased because I'm from Jersey, but I thnk Rutgers is still in that stage where teams aren't REALLY taking them seriously yet. I actually think Rutgers may have a better shot with WVU. WvU plays even worse defense than UL and Rutgers has shown they can stop the run. Granted it was Navy and the option, but they shut them out.

If Rutgers does win the Big East, how many 'experts" will suddenly claim they called it the whole way.

i'd say Pitt is a tad better than Navy, but point is well taken, Big East is not a top tier conference. I am not impressed that they have 3 undeafeted teams, so what! Put WV, Louisville and/or Rutgers in the SEC, Big 10 and/or even the Big 12, I am willing to bet that not one of them would be undeafeted at this point. I'm hoping that the computers will see through the lack of competition and not put Louisville or WV in the national title game, but if WV wins against Louisville, they will probably play the winner of the OSU/Mich game, depending on how that game goes and if one or the other blows the other team out.

You make a good point here...not just about WVU but teams in general. Rutgers would be a classic team for an opponent to "overlook".

I agree as well. There are a lot of teams playing weak schedules. There are not very many of them undefeated. If they make it through the year undefeated, they deserve to be in the top-5 and a BCS bowl, IMHO.

Yes, that win over Howard was impressive.

Howard's the 106th ranked Offense out of 116 Div 1AA schools.

They've also lost to such other notable Football Powers as Morgan St, Hampton (way to go Tregg), Florida (no, not the Gators nor the Noles but A&M), and Winston-Salem.

Howard has big wins over N.C. A&T (0-8), Norfolk St (3-5) and Div II Fort Valley St.

So Rutgers go down a class to beat an inept opponent who goes down in class to beat an inept opponent.

Was Piscataway High School booked up to is Rutgers ducking them this year?

I am with you on that point. Look at a couple of the top 10 teams also and check out their out of conference schedules. Any true college football fan saw this Rutgers turn around happening a few years ago. Schiano's aggresive recruiting in the state of Florida (seriously the billboards in Miami were a stroke of genius!) and getting athletes in place has created a buzz with the program. Leonards run against Illinois last year (although I believe they lost that game) put Rutgers all over the television last year. Having Rice and Leonard in the back field is a pretty impressive combination. If I remember right, everyone had Rutgers losing at Pitt, and Rutgers wins 20-10 creating confusion and pressure on Palko all day. They are a decent team no question, who cares who they played early. Anybody talking crap over Michigan playing all the directional schools and Ball St. out of conference? No if Temple could just.....ok that won't happen.

Do you realize how many teams play against D 1AA teams? It's called a tune-up game, and don't try and say that that win against Pitt wasnt legit. Only letting up 10 points against that offense. I can guarantee Pitt would put up atleast 20 against us. They're ranked #12 in the BCS for a reason.

It doesn't really matter who Rutgers has played this year. It's nice to see them go 8-0 thus far in the season. That is a great story. I hope they beat WVU or Louisville this year. I don't believe they will beat both.

Yes, I do. It's an abomination. Those wins should not be counted for bowl eligibility the way it used to be until the teams that thrived on out of Division and weak Division foes whined they couldn't become bowl eligible without a handicap.

Pitt is a Div1A foe even though they subscribe to the Big East Model of we can't compete with ranked Div 1 opponents so we'll fatten our records on Div1AA (bad 1AA) teams, and Div 1 bottom feeders. Tell me you were impressed with Pitt's 51-6 shellacking of Citadel. Yes, I know it was a "tuneup game", another tuneup scheduled in the 4th week of the season.

Big East apologists are just like Mountain West and WAC fans with the constant whining about one game they played last year or three years ago trying to justify their entire conference as big boys. It's past midseason, the Big East has played 64 games, who have they beaten?

Cincinnati played OSU (L) and VT (L),
SYR played WF (L) and Iowa (L),
Pitt played MSU (L) and UVA (W over 4-5 team) at least they played somebody!
USF played KU (L) UNC (W - guess that will make it a quality win for ND that as well, huh.) CON played IU (W), Army (W- guess that will make it a quality win for ND that as well, huh?), WF (L), Navy (L) great win over Rhode Island!
RUT ILL (W), UNC (W), Navy (W) (didn't ND lose ground for beating Navy?)
WVU MAR (W), UMD (W), ECU (W)
LOU MIA (W), UK (W), KSU (W)

Note the predominance of other conference perennial bottom feeders, KU, UK, UNC, IU, ILL, Army, ECU, Temple, WF, (not the weakling they were supposed to be better cancel them for next year)

According to Sagarin (BCS) the Big East's biggest wins over the highest ranked OOC opponent are over #30 Maryland and #33 Navy (with an injured QB). Kentucky is #43, IU #45, KSU #60,#63 ECU, Miami #72.

Shall we go on to #93 Illinois, #111 Miss ST, #113 Kansas, #116 Army, #122 Toledo, #146 Eastern Michigan, #152 Rhode Island, #142 Temple, Citadel #166, McNeese St#158, #186 Florida Int, and Howard #225

WVU, LOU, and RUT are big fish in a small pond. Koi among the minnows.
