Kremlin confirms North Korea leader Kim Jong Un will visit Russia "in the coming days"​

The Kremlin has confirmed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will visit Russia “in the coming days.”

“At the invitation of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Chairman of State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Kim Jong Un will pay an official visit to Russia in the coming days,” the Kremlin said in a statement Monday.

The statement did not specify an exact date for the visit.
North Korean state media KCNA reported on Monday that Kim will "meet and have a talk" with Putin during the visit.
It did not say when the meeting between Kim and Putin would take place.
Earlier, CNN reported that Kim appeared to be on a train heading to Russia, according to a South Korean government official. The source said the train believed to be carrying Kim, departed from Pyongyang and is en route to Vladivostok, Russia.

To understand why we need to avoid war whenever possible. Unless you've fought in the military, I don't think those that haven't can truly understand the impact it has. People should understand why we are funding someone else's war.

Russia's ultimate goal is the dissolution of the Ukranian national identity and orientation of a compliant rump state away from the West. The Ukranians know a settlement just gives Russia time to entrench and prepare to go after the Ukranians again.

This is existential for the Ukranians. People fighting existential wars have a greater loss tolerance than invading nations. We saw this in Vietnam. Strictly speaking the US won every defined battle and had vastly superior kill to loss ratios than the North Vietnamese. The US had ten times the population of north Vietnam and some Vietnamese help. We still lost the war because we couldn't sustain political will to keep going.

In Ukraine, Russia outnumber the Ukranians 3 or 4 to 1. All observers agree Russia has taken much higher military casualties. If the West can keep focus on providing material support and the Ukranians continue to maintain the will to fight it's hard to see this ending well for the Russians.

I could see some settlement/loss of territory to the Russians in a settlement, but the Ukranians need Kherson/Zaporizhia for a rational defensive line and economy post war. The Ukranians need EU accession which the Russians are currently opposed to. And Ukraine needs explicit Western security guarantees that Russia agrees to to end this.

Even if Trump wins in 2024 I'd expect Ukraine to keep fighting. Europe has been increasing financial/military assistance vs. The US over time which you'd expect to continue either way. I'd expect this to still be going for a few more years one way or the other.

Ukraine has also successfully struck multiple russian ships and subs in occupied Crimea
