Sorry to create another thread about Minter, but one of the mods on notredamefans.com started a thread on that website that he heard rumors that Minter and/or Lewis will be retiring at the end of the season rather than be fired. And, that Weis will be looking to pursue Crennel depending on what happens with the Browns.

Just passing along the info that I saw on another message board. If you want to look at it, it is in the Football Discussion section and is titled "well you want a RUMOR here is one"

I don't know about you guys, but I think Crennel would be a very, very good fit at ND especially since he worked extensively with Weis in the past. I could see both of them gelling pretty well together. But do you really think he would leave the NFL for college?

Seriously doubt it...it's too big a step down.

Even if he did come, everyone would know it was only temporary, thus not helping bring in any recruits.

The Lerners have proven to be quit on the trigger. So him being out in Cleveland makes sense. Especially after the hurting that much better team from south of them put on them this past weekend.

But is he a good fit? What about recruiting? Then again, Charlie seems to have picked it up OK.

I think its a great fit...Romeo is a proven D-coordinator, this would allow Weis to not have to worry about the D so much

I think that rumor has it's origins in the posters dreams. Minter is 52 - not quite retiring age and his son is an intern with the ND athletic dept.

The only move I see him making is some sort of lateral move into the ND 'front office'

I think lewis is the one retiring. I think he's 65 (or pretty close). But if we could get Crennell then I wouldn't mind firing Minter.

I could see Lewis retiring given the fact that he's in his mid-60's. He seems to have lots of energy, but let's face it, he's spent his life in College Ball and at 65 you might just want to get off that crazy merry-go-round...it's not exactly a part time job at ND!!!

Crennel is NEVER coming here. Never. No one goes from NFL head coach to NCAA assistant.

That said, if he DID, our D, with whatever talent, would immediately become really fucking good. Like, the Patriots were more known for their defense than their offense during their Super Bowl years.

Would Crennel already be on the outs in Cleveland?

He's on the verge of losing absolute control of this team. Braylon Edwards and "General" Winslow are absolute freaking time bombs just waiting for their time to unleash all types of hell. The media press conference today was nothing but questions pertaining to has he lost this team...this and that. I'd say his leash is pretty short right about now...especially since they fired their OC after week 5 and then proceed to get shut out against one of the WORST defenses in all of pro football. Hell I'd take Romeo and bring Todd Grantham with him...Love that dudes fire. Too bad it'd never happen but we can always dream.

How did you know that Charlie would be any good? You really don't, but you take your shots at the ones who are considered the best and hope to God that they really are the best.

He might not have a choice the road the browns have been taking as of late.

What does Crennel make per year at Cleveland as the head coach?

Because what he'd get as D Coordinator at Notre Dame would be a drop in pay, wouldn't it? A substantial one?

You would have to think that it would be. I think were dreaming here. Well I say if we do get him that we just bring in bellicheck to coach here too. Maybe brady wants to come back to college and help us beat his former team next year?

Just kiddin Crennel would do a hell of job here he is a great coach, but I think its a pipedream. Go from a head coach in the NFL make XXXXX$ to D-coordinator in college making XX$. I don't think so.

Being Defensive coach at ND would be much better than no job after being fired by the browns.

From a recent article:

With more wins like last week's road victory over Atlanta, Browns head coach Romeo Crennel can probably silence the whispers about his job security for 2007 - but one reality may still keep Crennel in a vulnerable position. Crennel's salary (an estimated $2 million or so a season) puts him among the lower tier of NFL coaches in pay: In fact, at least one NFL assistant - Redskins defensive coordinator Gregg Williams - rakes in way more bucks than Crennel.

So, the truth is if Browns management really, really just wants to dump Crennel after the season - regardless of the team's final record - it'll hardly be intimidated by the thought of paying off the final three years on Crennel's deal.

First of all Crennel isn't going anywhere. He isn't getting fired and if he did get fire he wouldn't come to ND. He would just sit out a year and then get another job in the NFL. And if he did come to ND for some unknow reason it would just be for a year and that would be dumb.

More than likely, Crennel would get a defensive coordinator job in the NFL somewhere. At least.

Take a look at these numbers for ND:

87th in pass efficiency defense
56th in scoring defense
50th in rushing defense
45th in total defense

And ND played Stanford, North Carolina, UCLA, Army, Navy and Air Force.

Doesn't add up. How can you argue with this?
