It was great no doubt but we lost. Makes me sick. How cool was that rainbow then the touchdown and how great it would have been if we won. :(

We lost. That's in the past. The only thing we can do now is to move on.

I'm looking forward to a lot more throws like this.

I already posted this in the game day thread, but I think it deserves it's own thread. This has got to be one of the greatest plays in ND history.

YouTube - Kyle Rudolph 95 yard Touchdown / ND vs. Michigan 2010

It was a great play. One of the greatest in our history? I have to disagree based on the circumstances that followed. If we had won, even then it would be tough to place it too high. Remember this is week #2 vs another unranked team. As a stand alone play it was great, but in the context of great Irish plays in history I wouldn't rank it too high.

Any time you have a TE catch a 95 yard TD pass, you can throw circumstance right out the window.

Which reminds me of a question that's been burning a hole in my brain ever since that play: was that the longest reception by a TE in the history of the NCAA? I couldn't find any sort of record on that.

As for the greatness of the play...tough to get so excited when an opposing player so obviously screws up...but then it still had to be on the money and Rudolph had to show his WHEELS.

not sure if it one of the greatest but i know ND has had some pretty athletic TE's considering in 2006 Carlson took a pass for 74 yards i believe somewhere around there, then Rudolph and 95yards

It was a great play, but remember the Irish have been playing over 100 years, and have 11 consensus National Championships. There are plays that had a greater impact in our history. I'm not discounting the play, I just don't think given the circumstances that it is one of the greatest plays in our history. When I think of greatest plays in our history I think of plays like the 4th quarter stop of Miami in 88. I guess it's all a matter of personal preference.

Wasn't the safety's fault. Cornerback/LB didn't flip open his hips until after the ball was over his head.

The entire time Rudy was running, I kept thinking/typing "Too much time. Too much time. Too much time."

Then freaking Robinson from the one....

Sigh.

I dont care what the occasion was. That was one of the biggest plays in Irish football. Are you kidding me saying it wasnt-when was the last time a 6' 6 265 lb tight end caught a game ending touchdown pass that went for 95 yrds. It matters not that it didnt hold up. For my $$$ it ranks with Pinnicks run and the Weber catch. I dont give a #$%@ if we couldnt hold a lead that play was magic. The guy on my avatar ( Ken McAfee ) must have been proud. I may have to change my avatar - McAfee would understand.

If it actually had been a game-ending TD, I would totally be on board. As it was, Quinn to Shark against UCLA, for example, holds up as at least as special. And that's only one example from a school whose lore is steeped in great plays.

But seriously, we're still missing the most important point: Does Rudolph now hold the NCAA record for the longest reception by a tight-end??? I can not imagine too many tight ends being able to outrun the DBs like he did.

If it actually had been----the play stands as great, I do understand that it wasnt the last play and we lost. His weight is listed at 255-265 lbs.

Well it was a awesome catch and run for Kyle. Aaron was running with him and yelling at the same time, GO GO GO GO! Pretty funny watching Aaron run in a stand still position. Great things are still to come for Kyle this year.

I can't wait either, and definetly a sad loss. Let's just put it behind us and move on to the next and use the mistakes we made to better our team. We are Notre Dame!!

It was an awesome catch and run. I thought the defender was going to catch him. Kyle's legs looked like they were moving a lot slower than the defenders but the defender never got any closer. Once again Longo's conditioning paid off.

There have been lots of comments oe the catch and run but few on the pass. ND's banged up QB threw that pass from the endzone and Kyle caught it across midfield. 50+ yards and Kyle caught it in stride. Crist has a strong arm. He throws a long way with zip. He just needs work getting the ball in the same zip code his receivers occupy. It will come.

I was a great play but I'm tired of these great plays in loses. ND needs a signature win. Hopefully that comes against SC this year.

The Rudolph catch was an instant classic in my book. That safety did not gain an inch on Kyle after the catch, that is some nice top line speed for a very large young man.

Crist had another fifty + yard through, too bad he was throwing from the thirty yard line at the end of the game.

I hated it, obviously, but Rudolph has got to be the best TE in the country.

If Anthony Fasano doesn't step it up this year, expect Miami to take a look at him.

Just a couple of notes on the play:

- It was almost entirely the safety's fault. Would it surprise you to know he's a true freshman? His name's Cameron Gordon. He was the same player that took a horrible angle on the ball and let TJ Jones slip by him on the phantom touchdown. On the Rudolph touchdown, he took absolutely forever to swing his hips and turn around. He backpedaled way too long.

- I do miss Jimmy Clausen at times, but he could never have made that throw. What a perfect ball from Crist.

- Great job by the offensive line of keeping Crist protected and giving him time to make the throw.

- Kyle Rudolph's got some wheels. He looks slow as hell but he can really go.

It was a great throw by Crist, but it didn't have enough air underneath it. I'm being picky of course, but if that was an experienced safety, it might have been picked off.

Same thing with the throw to Jones...it was a laser for sure, but better secondaries will make Crist pay at some point.

I love that Crist has the arm and isn't afraid to make that throw...it was a heck of a gutsy throw, but he could learn a little from Clausen and put some air underneath it. I think if he does that we should be throwing deep a whole lot more...let's start throwing some up to Floyd, its his speciality. I don't care if it's Weis-esque...it's a high percentage play given Dayne's arm and Floyd's talent.

Anyone agree?
