One of my favorite wrestlers, saw the news late last night that Piper passed away in his sleep. Good guy, decent family man, funny as hell. One of the best to ever hold the mic.

Awesome entertainer, and definitely one of the best. Roddy Piper was the ultimate bad guy in my opinion, and played the part better than anybody.

He wasn't my favorite wrestler, and when I watched I definitely didn't like him. As I have grown I can look back now and appreciate what he did, and the role he played in professional wrestling.

RIP Rowdy

Yup, without great villains you can't have great heroes. Hulkamania may have been a flash in the pan if it weren't for Piper. It's amazing how many wrestlers I found myself not caring for growing up, and you look back at their work after you grow up and say "Damn, those guys were good!" Felt that way about Shawn Michaels too. Didn't care for him during his first run with WWF/WWE, but after he came out of retirement I thought he was one of the greatest performers they've ever had. It's hard to find wrestlers like that today that can be great on the mic like Piper and HBK and still put on incredible matches.

It's so sad that so many guys I grew up watching have died and you just know that many more will in the next decade. Their schedule combined with the roids and blows to the head have totally wrecked their bodies.

One of my favorite movie quotes. Piper came up with it himself, it didn't come from any of the writers or John Carpenter. He had a notebook he wrote lines down in and it came straight from that.

I've got another one of his movies. It's B Movie-tastic, but it's funny.

I was thinking of starting a thread for Roddy's passing, but I didn't figure it would meet with anywhere near the interest that it has.

Roderick George Toombs was a really great and personable man. I think it was a bit tough for him to actually have a reputation as a villain; it was so contrary to his true nature. He was a guy who made friends easily, and had his friend's backs.

And he had been really sick for the last ten years or so . . . Peace, Rod!

I have some friends that met him at some show. They attend many different shows together so I am not sure if it was a tatoo show or something else. May have even been a wrestling thing. Anyway, they got a group photo with him and chatted awhile. Each person commented about how nice and genuine he was. He was wearing a black t shirt that said "Villain" on it. This was in March (I think) and he looked a little worn down.

It was May 9th, Full Moon Tatoo and Horror Festival
