Alabama will claim it's all media bias and throw National Champion banner up because of this

it's still a little premature to say ND overtook them since the numbers haven't been recalculated. but from all appearences, ND should move into that spot.

recall that accoridng to rivals and scout they only count the top 25 recruits anyways. so losing the 3-stars only hurts Alabama if they were counted in that top 25. losing the two 4-stars definitely does. so if the 3-stars that replace those two 4-stars in the top-25 of the class are rated low enough, ND could make-up the point difference.

I wonder what our 2006 class would rank now, with all the transfers. Random thought.

interesting question. probably much lower. as would the 2004 and 2003 classes, which were the senior and 5th yr senior classes last year. probably should have told us something if we had looked closer at those numbers.

In 2004
Anthony Vernaglia
Junior Jabbie
Maurice Crum
Justin Hoskins
Terrail Lambert
Darius Walker (went to the NFL)
Chauncey Incarnato
John Kadous
Brandon Nicolas
Ronald Talley
David Wolke
Abdel Banda
Justin Brown
Darrin Bragg
Leo Ferrine
Tregg Duerson

All of those in bold were no longer on the team in 2007. so out of the 16 recruited, we had 7 for 2007, we only have 4 5th year seniors back for 2008.

In 2005
D.J. Hord
Joey Hiben
Paul Duncan
Evan Sharpley
Scott Smith
Michael Turkovich
Kevin Washington
David Bruton
David Grimes
Derrell Hand
Ray Herring
Patrick Kuntz
Kyle McCarthy
Asaph Schwapp
Steve Quinn

out of 15, only 13 were on the team. and while i love these guys and love the team, only half of those guys have competed for starting positions. that class only had two 4-stars, one of which (Hiben) left before 2007 and the other (Hord) left before 2008. we should have the remaining 12 of those guys back for 2008.

All schools go through this...USC has way more transfers than we do. It's a depth thing and a good thing.

I wouldn't agree that it's necessarily a good thing. Who wants to be like U$C? It's bound to happen when talent level is much higher in the younger classes as ND has been. We have a habit of rationalizing every transfer, but saying its good is a bit much.

At the risk of one mod disagreeing with another, when we win like USC it'll be a good thing, until then, every Konrad Rueland and Munir Prince who bails is a bad thing... a 3-9 team that loses top talent to a transfer can never be considered good

We have almost no depth at QB
We have very little depth at TE

I wish it were good, but look closer and it's NOT good for us. USC has the talent to do this, ND does not yet.

When they re-rank this fall it will be VERY close....very close indeed.

I look at it this way, just because someone wins the pole, doesn't mean he's going to win the race. I could give a crap less where we end up on the recruiting list just as long as it translates to a lot of wins and a few NC's.

When Rudolph and Fauria arrive, there'll be 5 scholarship players at TE. I don't see how there's a depth issue there at all.

two are incoming freshman who've never played. two (Ragone and Yeatman) are returning veterans but were not 1st team starters. who's the 5th? I think Schmidt was moved to TE but i thhought he sat out much of the spring with injuries? also, this would be his first year there.

so you have 3/5 who've never played a down of D-1 football at TE behind two veterans whyo weren't all american starters. that's not much depth, IMO. at least not the kind that gives me the warm fuzzies.

don't get me wrong. i like the guys we have as well as the incoming and 2009 commits.
