I remember a few years ago when Manti was being courted by ND he had a ton of hype, and was projected to be awesome. How Do Lynch, Tuitt, and Ishaq compare in terms of rating, hype..etc. Are they on the same level? Better? Or was Teo a once in a generation type LB recruit?

Lynch, Tuitt and Ishaq are all great recruits, but Manti was on another level. Manti was a consensus 5* player and top LB.

Individually they aren't as hyped and our expectations aren't as high. But collectively as a group with the sneak peak we got of them with limmited time together at the AAAG I think they have the ability to be something special. A lot better than individuals on different teams.

Manti was/is a special player on a different level on a nation evaluation stage.

But, I love the guys in this recruiting class. They seem to be great kids with a lot of talent. Just look--I am so excited. As it stands right now:

WE needed a big receiver to take over for Floyd-check Davarius

We needed a speed receiver--check George

We needed pass rushers and Impact DL/LB--Check Tuitt, Grace, Rabasa, Councell, and Ishaq

We needed secondary help--Check Hardy, Okotcha, Josh, Jalen, Farley

We needed versatile big guys--Check Carrucio and Springman

We needed another RB, who is versatile--Check Cam

We needed Olineman--Check Conor, Matt, and Nick

We needed a TE to replace Rudy--Check Ben

We needed a different dimentional QB for more options at QB--ccheck Everett

We need a replacement for Ruffer--Check Kyle

Who isn't excited as it stands? Things can change, but I absolutely love what we have. This is the start of something big IMO.

And If we can get an impact back like Huggins?? WOW Or the other bookend stud DE like Lynch??? Why couldn't we challenge the SEC for the the National Championship is Manti's senior year?????

Love it, Go Irish!!!

I went back to his original IE recruiting profile and his scout.com page and they listed him as 5 star 1 SLB, but they don't have a listing of overall recruit rank listed like you find so many places now (you know #1 SLB, #14 overall best recruit or something like that).

BTW...I guess I had forgotten Chris Watt was #1 OG that year (per scout)

Manti Teo' is a once in a decade man for Notre Dame and should get Heisman play by his senior year. This is the type of guy that a program is rebuilt with. Charlie/etc coaches deserve a tip of the hat. This guy could win the Heisman if the team turns it on. The national media would eat the story up as a defensive guy in the running but the team has to be great.

look at his play not to many like him... now sprinkle in the new commits i think this yr. defense brings back the glory.... i'd rather have a low scoring offense and a defense that can't be scored on..

I think I'd rather have a high scoring offense and a defense that can't be scored on. Same results, but more interesting to watch.

Yeah Manti was #1 lb and #2 overall with espn, Barkley was ahead of him. I kind of just assumed Manti was 1b :D
