What are you afraid of? The continued home losing streak to Navy? Urban wouldn't take the job because he knew the cupboard was bare.
and because of the admission standards

Oh yes those... The same ones that prevented Charlie from landing top10 classes... Oh wait he did land them. Hrm.. I'm fresh out of ideas now. Keep pulling more excuses out of your bag'o'tricks.
Before you can fire the guy, you have to find out who would be available to coach in his place. I couldn't tell you, but I don't think that there is much out there. He will be here through at least next year, I think.
Pull your head out of your ass. The replacement's name is Brian Kelly.

Brian Kelly will become Ty Willingham II. A MAC coach and a team that has had a couple big fish in the terrible Big East.

A good point brought up by ND-Jamotive, an Irish poster on the Rivals boards:
0-5 vs USC (3 20+ point blowouts)
2-3 vs UM (2 25+ point blowouts)
3-9 season (most losses in school history)
8 losses by 20 or more points (Ty had 8)
30 point loss to a 5-7 team (GT in '07)
2 losses to Navy in 5 years (41 straight wins prior to his hire)
17 point loss to an 8 win Air Force team
Loss at home to a 2 win Syracuse (first ever loss to a 2 win team in ND history)
Produced the worst rushing attack in ND history (2007)
Defenses that have ranked nationally: #75, #65, #39, #39, and #83
The worst offense (#119) in college football in 2007
1 win vs a team who finished the season ranked (2006 vs #24 PSU)
8-19 vs teams with winning records (will get worse after this season is completed)
First 0-5 start in ND history
I'll add on:
The worst two year stretch in Irish history (10-15)

I'm not defending Weis, but is it possible that this is a result of Navy getting better, instead of it being ALL about ND getting that much worse?
HA! Kelly has won some, true. He still has the Big East big fish to play in WVU and PITT so I will hold off until I see how those turn out. UCONN scared them today. I would not annoint the guy the greatest coach in football yet.
Navy is what Air Force was in the 80's/90's
Lou and Davie lost to them. This is the same difference.
I cannot say that Charlie is the guy to win the NC. However he has brought this program back from the lowest point in its history. I think he deserves a bit of loyalty.
Like it or not, ND hasn't been a consistently upper level program in over 30 years.
Never have they been dominant in the 85 schollie era.
Some guy might win in Boise or Cincy. Does that mean he wins in South Bend?
We've blown thru 7 coaches in 32 years. Never finding anyone suitable enough. At what point is it a slew of bad coaches, or unrealistic expectations?
Ara and Knute were great coaches. But times have changed.
His words last year, during the BCS draw was "Why would I want to leave? Cincinnatti is now a national power."
Something to that effect.
2007 was likely an unavoidable low point. Charlie should get somewhat a pass for that.
2 BCS games in 5 years.
Recruiting and talent level is better than it ever has been in the 85 schollie era
Went from 3 to 7 to 8-10 wins the last 3 seasons.
Probably big buyout
No guarantee that the next guy will never lose and always have the #1 recruiting class
Ultimately the program is trending up. Despite some obvious growing pains.

He also inherited a solid team from Dantonio when he got the job 3 years ago.
He hasn't built anything yet.
Why would Kelly even leave Cincinatti? He has a good team in a pretty weak conference and he doesn't have to play SC,MICH, or anybody of that level every year. I don't have Cincy's schedule in front of me, but what is the best team they have played this year?

i say dont fire weiss. you cant blame him for poor defense and missed field goals. coaches take way too much blame for poor play of the players
I dont think CW gets canned,he does the right thing and resigns. He is not a head coach, there are plenty of crappy NFL teams who would love to have him as an OC.As far as a new coach I have no clue anymore,as stated maybe Tony Dungy, how about Jim Harbaugh?the guy up at Northwestern? You can put it in the bank you are not getting Urban Meyer,Nick Saban,Bill Cower or anyone like that.
BUMP!!!
I'm gutted that we lost, absolutely gutted!, but I'd feel even worse if we fired CW at this point. IMO, it would set us back years, especially in terms of recruiting. I'm only hoping we can win out to save those players we're still trying to recruit?
We know what our problems are, and it has nothing to do with our offense or it's coaches, we need a D'co who can have the same impact on defensive recruits, as CW has for our offense.
The fact we're now beginning to, "tap into" Texas, (part reason for the Alamo) is down to CW.
Lets not, "cut off our nose to spite our face"!
In regards to our last few games, you may as well toss a coin, we might win, we might not, but either way our offense will still put up winning numbers, if not winning points!
The problem is, we keep hiring these inexperienced guys to be head coaches. Other than Holtz, Ty was the only guy with any experience, and he was what, the 4th choice during that debacle?
The administration needs to get its head out of its collective ass and do a LEGITIMATE search, and target guys with WINNING HEAD COACHING EXPERIENCE. The ND HC is NOT an on the job learning gig.
