Reaching Lou Holtz

Gentlemen, I can use your advice. I'm old, but my still surviving Mom is REALLY old, just having celebrated her 96th birthday. She's weak now and the family members can't care for her at any of our homes... so she's in a [very good Catholic-run] nursing home. I have been trying to decorate her room lately with her art [she was a "5*" painter] and family pictures. When I asked her "anything else?", she said amazingly "The Notre Dame banner and the picture of me standing with Coach Lou". [that had occurred when he presented one of my brothers with Ohio Valley Sportsman of the Year award years ago, and found that she had been married to Dad on campus at the Log Chapel].

Her response so stunned me that I'd like to tell Coach about it, and hopefully he'd respond with some note, which would make her REALLY happy --- a brief "high quality of life" moment of which there are few left.

Does anyone know a good way to reach Coach Holtz?? Mother would appreciate it; and I would even more so. Thank you for any ideas. OMM

Thanks guys. Since this isn't ultra time urgent, I'm going to try the ESPN commentators address first --- that will seem more unsurprising to Coach Lou if it works. And I have a little story about Mom's comment about Mark May which he'd laugh about. If a couple of weeks go by and nothing happens, I'll try some of the other ideas. I'm going to try to be as nonintrusive to his private life as I can, but this is too good not to try to see all the way home.

I'll let you guys know if/when Mom gets a response. I believe that if the letter and photo are passed on to Lou that he'll definitely respond. Lou really loves Notre Dame nostalgia and this is not only REALLY flattering to him but gives him some good-natured way to kid Mark May. But will it get by the sort-and-short-shrift mail help that he has? I got a response back from the Vatican; Lou is just one step up from there, so it's hopeful.

Hope everything works out OMM. If I know Lou the way I think I do [ I only know him by what my mind has developed] then I believe he would be more than happy to write a letter or more.

holy cats...you have Lou's private number don't you? gotta love this board!

irishrecruiting is a member of the 4th Estate.

He's interviewed Lou, Ara, and Charlie Weis. (well 2 outta 3 ain't bad). He was invited to the West Coast to interview the Getherall Family (not just Joey!).

He knows people in high places (well, pressboxes anyway).

I look forward to his first book.
