Unfortunately much of civilization has been at least partially built on slavery of human beings. It still goes on today, nary any corner of the globe hasn’t been involved in slavery. It is still much more widespread than most people realize. My great grandparents were Ukrainian working under forced labor by the Russians before they finally were able to get out in 1912. All their relatives disappeared (probably sent to Siberia to die). My grandmother (she was the 5th of 8 children) was born on the trip across Europe before leaving from a port in Italy. I’m still waiting for my reparations but I am lucky to have my white privilege.

Britain outlawed slavery decades before the American civil war in all of its empire, which was a pretty giant chunk of the world. the last country to abolish slavery did so in 1981 (Mauritania), but if you are naive enough to believe that ended slavery you are a fool. The difference is, that I don’t hear the British defending the practice like you are. I do see Americans lose their shit on a regular basis when someone suggests that Black Lives Matter, or that Obama was an American citizen, while attempting to block African Americans from the polls.
