I heard that he isn't just a gimmick coach. i don't follow the guy, but someone told me that at other places he coached he ran different offenses. Any truth to that?

Anyone that calls his offense a gimmick is not informed and has not followed his career. He has and always will run the spread option offense, he founded it. But it isn't a run only offense, at Tulane he was pass first under Shaun King, at Clemson it was fairly balance under Woodrow Danzler(spelling) and at WVU he has been more rush oriented especially in the last two years. When he has two guys that run in the 4.4 range, what would you do when teams aren't stopping it? If best using the assets you have is a gimmick then i gues Wannstadt is the most innovative coach in the history of football...

That's fine... but some of the plays out of that offense are gimmick plays. There is absolutely no denying that and in the games I watched this year, he ran a lot of those types of plays. Again, I have no problem with that because he was in the Big East.

However, the SEC has a lot more athletes and I'll be interested to see how he balances the offense out or if he tailors it to the Bama squad. One thing is for sure, they love power running games down there. It'll be interesting to see if he embraces the Bama culture or if he stomps on it and continues to coach what he knows.

Gimmick plays are different than a gimmick offense. I would totally agree that he ran SOME gimmick plays.

SEC- Very true envied one... A lot more athletes for sure.. But that also means he'll have more on his team... I guess we will see, I think the guy is a hell of a coach.

i wonder how this will effect recruiting for both teams! he is a proven coach and moving to the talent filled south he is going to have his hands full of potential studs.

great question and only time will tell... He went into Alabama to get P. White, who was off everyone's radar, who knows what he'll do?? If history is any indication of the future, he'll be successful no matter where he goes.

He'll go head to head with Urban Meyer for the same types of kids to fit that system.

The guy will have to grow on me... he's just never seemed that interesting a person. And he lost control of his WVU team after the Louisville loss. I mean, you are not supposed to lose to USF.. not when you've got Slaton and White on offense.

it was dispicable, no doubt... anything else would be an excuse, even though While messed up his ankle in the 1st quarter and couldn't run, they still should have beat them. But he didn't lose his team, they just beat Rutgers w/o White the entire game and with Rutgers playing for a BCS game..

is he sticking around to coach the bowl game, or not?

I don't even know if he is leaving yet!!! My hope for my WVU freinds is this is the biggest posturing move in the history of college football. I know he wants WVU to be a destination for recruits but that is going to take facility and asst. pay upgrades. If that happens, look out for WVU in the future, look out. This situation is insane!!!!
