So I was on my way to work this morning and was listening to the Dan Patrick Show.. He had a guy on from rivals who's name escapes me, Farrel was his last name maybe?
Anyways they were talking about Gunner and Dan asked how good Gunner was and he responded with "He's our #1 pro style QB".

A little further in the conversation the rivals guy said that he felt like Gunner going to LSU might not have been a good fit. He gave a number of reasons, but one confused me. He said because LSU's offense was a prostyle and that Notre Dame's spread would be a better fit for him.

Now I don't following recruiting that closely, I mostly follow it through here.. So my question is, is the prostyle, duel threat thing more of an NFL guide and not even apply to college, am I completely missing something here??
Sorry if this is a dumb question. It just confused me that you'd list someone as a pro style QB, but say he wouldn't fit well in a prostyle offense.

It should be changed to Pocket Passer and Dual Threat. Pro Style is just dumb.

Mike Farrell is an idiot and that's all you need to know.

Gunner ran a shotgun-based, pseudo-spread in high school. I'm not sure how it exactly translates to Kelly's offense, but it is close. This is probably what Ferret Farrell was getting at.

It's also a really stupid distinction that hurts a lot of otherwise good QB prospects in the rankings.

Beat me to it!

Yeah, these guys aren't really the creme de la creme of the scouting world if you follow the way I'm drifting. Recruiting has become a multimillion dollar scam...oops i mean, industry but player rankings aren't any more scientific than when it was just a few guys sending out newsletters or e-mail chains.

When you hear the top analyst talk like that, you can pretty safely dismiss him and can go back to his day job at Home Depot (no offense to anyone working at Home Depot!!!!)
