Qb Race: The Final 3

I think many people underrate Sharpley and I would like to help them understand that he really has a legitimate shot at starting and will prolly do a fine job:

Evan Sharpley- If you take a look at his highlight tape from high school I saw a pretty good kid. He moved well, I saw some sick jukes from that quarterback. He threw it well, can throw the deep ball well. He is better than many people think and I don't think he will roll over for JC or DJ, he came to compete. Weis wants a quarterback who he can mold and which quarterback seems the most open. A quarterback who has never lost a game in high school, had a quarterbacks coach, and has been praised since touching a football. But, Jimmy may be really dedicated to learning as much as he can from Weis and is determined to go pro, I am not saying that jimmy is a bad guy but, it would seem pretty hard not to get lost in your own success and stay in there with weis when he is riding you hard at a 2 a day after you have never lost a game. Then I don't know that much about DJ but a running quarterback is always hard to mold into a throwing scheme if he will use it again. Or a kid who has sat out a couple years watching, learning from Weis and Brady. Who has been underated and forgotten even though he has been the backup for 2 years under the best QB in college football. Wei has said that Sharpley understands the system the best and I would rather have someone in the game that knows the program like the back of his hand and is actually pretty good than someone that has all the talent in the world but has a little trouble with some of the material.

Anyways I think people shouldn't be disappointed and surprised when the depth chart is posted because the kid is not such a bad choice.

I still don't think E Sharpley finishes the year as the starting quarterback under any circumstances. Just my opinion.

That could be true but he might start the year vs. Georgia Tech

Check out his rivals highlight tape, its actually really pretty good

I can watch his clips on Rivals, but why? he is a good QB with an ND scholarship so I beleive he is good. But watching his highlight tape no matter what will pale in comparision to Jimmy's. I do think Jimmy should be a little protected in those first few games so he doesn't deal with the losing record and jerkoffs like Mark May saying he sucks. I think it's better if Evan starts the season, but Jimmy finishes.

Totally agree IK. I don't wanna make it sound like Evan is the gimmie pig, but I think it's better if Evan starts and Jimmy finishes. There is a possiblity if Sharpley starts he could do very well and start the entire season. Just more for us to debate for next year. But if we have a poor record then Jimmy should come in and finish.

I also agree. Evan isn't a bad quarterback by any means. I just don't think he has the decision making ability to be our starting QB all year. I also concur with most of the others, and think JC will be starting by the end of the year. He's just too good and has to much potential not too.

But I'm also going to go against the grain, and say neither ES or JC will start against GT. I think it's going to be DD. Why you ask? Georgia Tech's defense is usually pretty stout every year. At this point in the season, we probably won't have had enough time to develop a solid passing game and get our receivers up to the level they need to be. GT's heavy blitzing is going to create all sortst of problems for our Offensive Line. So who better to throw in there than our dual threat QB. Especially after watching the same type of spread offense, West Virginia, dismantle them in the bowl game last year.

Saying that Clausen might not want to work hard after never losing a HS game is ridiculous. Who's to say he's a prima donna? Maybe he is like a Peyton Manning type and ready to work hard for his success and improve.

I'll tell you what's lame. Waiting for a bunch of teenagers to commit. This sux. If it's hard on us, imagine what CW and CB go through.

I would take my sweet ass time and get some official visits under my belt...maybe a car from Zook and a new house from Poodle...kick back my legs and then committ to Notre Dame and make up negative recruiting things that Poodle and Zook said to get them fired.

I agree with you, I dont' think CW will allow anyone to be a prima donna on this team.

I think when it's all said and done JC will be the QB

Well put... start Sharpley. Imagine if Clausen started and we start 2-2 or worse... He throws a few picks... could really hurt him. Sharpley knows the system. Clausen will be the starter by the end of the year imho.

I think DJ will only be used in the QB spot in certain situations.( short yardage, goal line)I feel that he should consider switching to WR.

I don't know, I have my concerns about is arm. I know that he can throw it but can he hit his target consistently.

I'm a Clausen guy myself, I feel he gives us the best chance to win any game. He throws the ball away and doesn't make mistakes and is deadly accurate now that he probably had his surgery he'll get his zip back on his ball that made him so highly touted in the first place....accuracy/arm strength/decision making/intangibles....he has all of that. I just want to protect him from the ESPN animals if we start off slow. I think Sharpley probably would start the first few games. I think DD will be a situational QB like Tebow, but it's all speculation until Weis tells us otherwise.

He had a wicked long ball, but kinda inconsistent on certain patterns. But that motha could run pretty dang good.

He also had a player called the Rocket which helped. believe me I loved watching Tony play but I feel he had some big time play makers around him. There are a lot of unknowns about this ND team. We have the talent, but until we see them on the field we just don't know.

That team would just line up and tell you they were gonna run down your throat. Effing sweet stuff. This team can't do that. They are gonna need a good balance, with some different looks, and guys that can YAK with regularity.

I think that this team is going to run the ball more than people think. Last year we passed first, this year we run first. :twocents:

Kevin Mcdougal.... another dual threat Qb that should have won a title... efficient passer, I know we were an option team but Don't count DJ out just yet! It also comes down to who can manage a game the best...one of Brady's best qualities was his ability to lead and manage a game. This is very important....remember Jarius Jackson and how we lost to michigan with time running out.......
