With this whole "government shutdown," I was wondering if that affects county clerk offices. I HAVE TO pick up my marriage license this week, so I was wondering if anyone knows if that will be affected by this.

No worries Steelhead. Getting a passport for a honeymoon would be a problem though.

Shouldn't be. Passport offices are almost exclusively self funded (they charge for the passports) and there are places that are not run by county employees that provide passport services. Check the phone book and call around to public notaries if your local county office shuts down. I got mine from the notary at my local Fed-Ex Express.

I'd be more concerned the county clerk's office would shut down and keep you from getting your license. Better get on that, ASAP!

You probably will be unable to secure a passport, until this is resolved. Passports are issued by the State Department. Even if the local place that you apply for a passport at is open, they are unlikely to be able to get it processed. Since marriage licenses are county government, the shutdown of the federal offices should not affect that............. one would think.

Where do you turn with smoldering questions?

It shouldn't be a problem unless your county or state have also closed up shop.

Godspeed!
