On your first point, I think Rees has (correctly) been coached not to take chances. He threw a few balls away that last year he would have tried to fit in tight spots. This is good coaching. We are a team whose identity is to play great defense and run the football. The biggest thing lacking is special teams play.

On your second point: Again, we are a running team that wins with defense. I'd much rather Kelly run it in the Red Zone than pass, particularly with Rees who has no mobility. On the next drive Kelly added the misdirection for GAIII's TD, which was the difference maker.

There's no way some of those were throwaways and if they were it goes beyond being told to be conservative. It would be bad decision making.

I'm fine with running it in the redzone, but the same bad play 3 times in a row is really bad. I know the QBs aren't very good on this team, but we aren't utilizing our 6-6 TE in the redzone enough IMO. I'm not a coach but our bad redzone offense can't just be on the player. Kelly did some good with playcalling like how the end-arounds opened up running up the middle at the end, but his redzone playcalling is consistently poor this season.

Just watched the replay with my son. If Kelly lives up to his word from three years ago of disciplining the troops, there are going to be some boys that will be in shape to run to China after those PF penalties.

So.... if there was a game to get these penalties and the missed field goals behind them, BYU was it. the Irish will need to work on those before OU.

GO IRISH!!!!!!!!

My hope is that yesterday was just a mind**** day. Apparently the team was pretty upset with yesterday's win which I think is a good sign. The team needs to be focused Saturday and watching the film from BYU will likely get that job done.

I hope so. The personal fouls are killers, of course. But we seem to commit them at 'perfect' times of the game.

GO IRISH!!!!!!!!!

1- theo is quick, not fast
2- the false start on golic was cave's fault
3- I think I screamed "put hendrix in the F'ing game" about 5 times.
4- mayock makes alot of mistakes and says things that are very exaggerated.
5- daniels shouldve caught that pass with his facemask.
6- I couldnt help noticing rees "denard robinson toss up" passes.
7- the defense is nasty, from time to time they'll be out of position, but no defense is perfect.
8- brindza needs shake the misses off, you could see it was in his head.
9- doing this from my phone sucks
10- go irish!!! Beat the sooners!

Watching Irish Connection the mood in the locker room was very mellow compared to other games.

I haven't read all the other posts so forgive me if I repeat something.

1. I think we saw why Golson is the starter. TR isn't killing us with bad INT's this year, but he just can't light up the board.
2. We need to stop running from the spread. We run the ball much more effectively from under the center. The RB hits the hole much quicker. Once we started doing that in the second half, we were able to run the ball effectively and control the clock.
3. Our secondary got exposed some this week, but I think it ended up being a good wake up test before facing OU.
4. We appear to have fixed the TO problem from last year, but can we stop getting so many penalties, especially the stupid personal fouls? We had BYU stopped deep and let them off the hook.

I was at the game in the end zone, row 7, so I got a pretty close look. Eifert was being double covered in the red zone. The safety was palying inside to take away the slant, but close enough to help on the fade.

I'm pretty sure those runs that didn't gain anything in the red zone came from the spread. Our best running came from the single pro-set with TR under center. After failing to punch it in running from the spread, I think BK finally heard me scream loud enough that he put TR under center. LOL Then we started to run the ball effectively.

This was a trap game and this team showed they are indeed legit. Good teams find a way to win the trap games. With a trip to OU coming up you can be sure they will be ready. I wouldn't be surprsied to hear Kelly say they had their best week of practice.
