Solid win against an inferior opponent. It is nice to see the team not play down to the competition like in years past. I hope this is a sign that Golson has turned a corner. The O-line played great and it is finally good to see Wood get touches.

The defense was exposed a bit early but adjusted quickly. The front 7 didn't get any sacks but they made Harris uncomfortable as the game went along.

Overall, A performance. Great win, keep it up.

1. VERY BIG win for the program. This is the kind of game that can take a good team, and help them turn the corner to being a GREAT team.

2. Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run!!! And then Run again! I love it!

3. As dominating as this looked, the coaches and players will still have plenty to work on; Miami gave us some key help in the form of penalties and dropped passes, that really gave us a great base to work with. Without that help, it might have played out very differently.

4. This Defense is for real, and in the same class as ANY other defense in college football.

5. I think we should not overlook something that everyone should be able to appreciate: Golson apparently broke a minor team rule. Kelly could have just let it slide, as the kid is the starting QB. But he didn't. Kelly sat him for the first series. The record book will show that Golson DID NOT start tonight's game. Yet, he didn't go overboard and overreact to the issue. Thanks, Coach Kelly, for doing it right!

6. Miami's defense is pretty bad, but congrats to the OLine on a job well done. 376 yards rushing, and almost 600 (587) total yards. Kudos!
Took advantage of some early breaks and left no doubt. People in my sub division from Ala/Ga fan base calling Notre Lame/play somebody /and will you ever score a touchdown again dont have much to say right now. Hatred comes from fear and they're hating big time right now. All eyes turn to Notre Dame in years like this-the subway alums around the nation are now fully jacked and ready to let it rip. Of course I will pick Stanford to win this week-I dont want to spoil my 0-5 record. Stanford will come into South Bend and look to play bully ball with occasional downfield throws. They dont think this edition of Notre Dame football is any different than the team they've seen the last 3 years. Maybe they should consult Miami on that subject. If Notre Dame wins this game you will see a national outpouring like you've never seen before. Ala 1964 and Ara's team. I pick Stanford to beat them-and hope to be wrong again-Go Ir1sh!

And Joey Getherall.

But neither are anywhere near the overall package that Atkinson is and will be, especially considering that Rossum (kinda) played defense.

He looked like he was playing defense on roller skates at times.

Julius Jones. Not as blazing fast as Atkinson, but a much more natural runner, that probably played with about the same football speed.

Come on now, how about Golden Tate 3 years ago?? I don't think anyone really truly gave enough credit to Golden Tate for his final season with us. Our dreadful offensive line and defense that couldn't stop anyone hid the fact about how brilliant Tate and Clausen were that season.

When GAIII broke his long TD run, my dad was walking by and asked when the last time ND had speed like that was. I couldn't come up with an answer.

Tate has great speed, but he doesn't have the "Jesus Christ, he's fast" speed of Atkinson.

Just thought of something:

For anyone who was wondering about Theo Riddick, Kelly said in his postgame presser that Theo had a bruised elbow, and that's why they held him out of the rest of the game. Didn't sound like anything major, and Kelly even said that he could have gone back in. But Cierre was running so well, there was no need to risk further injury/turnover.

Acutally ND only had NO Sacks, NO Forced Fumbles (or unforced either), NO INTs, one TFL, and 4 QBHs. They persisted but Miami's QB had time. As for running MIA averaged 5.4 yds a game. ND didn't shutdown their run down rather they had to give up the rush and throw more as ND's lead grew bigger. They had the ball for less than 4 minutes in the 3rd Q and less than 21 minutes in the entire game.

You are missing the point. When a team can run consistently, the defense usually has to compensate with bringing a safety closer to the LOS. That opens up play action, with that safety at a disadvantage down field to help our corners. We NEVER had to do that against Miam. We could sit back in a dep cover two pass defense. Look, I like our young corners potential, but USC's Wood and Lee are not going to drop the ball down field in LA.

And we did not get pressure with four this weekend like we have had all year. That's why Miami would have had 350 yards passing had they not dropped the football. Had they been able to run, it would have been higher. They couldn't, because our front 7 is great at making teams one dimensional.

Miami's a lousy, young football team, whose talented young skill position played lousy. We are facing a few teams where that is not the case, and if we get to a major BCS bowl, will certainly not be the case.

I think Wood is the better back, myself. But I would not demean Riddick by dismissing him as "far inferior" to Wood. Riddick is a legitimate tailback. Not great, but legitimate.

Show me where I "demeaned" Riddick or wrote he was "far inferior"? Those are your words, not mine.

Plus, Tate is not a running back. When Atkinson puts on more weight and muscle, he's going to be a beast to defend inside and outside.

If you're talking pure speed GAIII should be compared to Brown and the Rocket. Tate was fast, but I don't think he was quite as fast as those two or GAIII. What I saw in GAIII was the same I saw in TB and the Rocket, up to full speed with the first step. Almost like beng shot out of a cannon.

I was disappointed that we got caught with our pants down TWICE on Miami's first drive. If they had connected on either one, the game may have taken another direction. Young teams tend to thrive more on emotion and that would have been a big lift.

Having said that, Kelly did exactly what he should have done and let his O-line beat on their young defense and strangle their will to compete to the end.

This was by far Golson's best game. It was clear early on his mental makeup was on spot.

Looking at the run at the end of the 3rd quarter, when GAIII got the ball, he was on the ND 40 with :33 left and hit the goal line with :25 left. That is crazy.
