Stanford will still have a long way to go should they beat the Ducks. They only have one cupcake left on the schedule, Wash St. They still have USC, U of A, ASU, UW, Cal and Ore St and none of them is a cupcake.

The odds do not favor Stanford running the table.

My observations-
1. Stanford is much better than we are right now...I don't blame the coaching, I blame the players not making plays. We were in position to make plays all over the field today. Some of our players did (Manti-21 tackles wow.. Robert Blanton...Carlo Calebrese... Ruffer... Theo...Floyd) Most of ours didn't show up. Stanford is who they are Very Good and we are what we are right now, pretty Average. This is week 4 of year 1.... If we continue to play this way at the end of this season, I will question the coaching and development but for now, sometimes you just got be an athlete and make plays.

in 1988 I moved to Toronto Ontario....and the Red Wings were playing the 'Leafs....well as you guessed it I was at a bar in down town Toronto with a bunch of Canadians...and since that day I have been a huge Red wing fan. Also when the rivary between the wings and avs (names like Kocur, lapoint, roy, foote, lemeix) that ignited my passion more.

In fact I am a off ice offical for the local minor league team locally.

speaking of...here is a good article on a future super star for the wings..

This would be interesting....lets draw some parallels between the wings and the irish:

Comman:
Rich in tradition
Loyal Following

Delta:
Wings have on ice leadership
Irish are still looking for their leader on O (I think they have found it on D- Mr Teo)

Wings have a strong D (Lidstrom, Raf,)
Irish have spots of strengh

Wings evolve with the game (left wing lock...now no left wing Lock)
Irish D still are learning the 3 4

Moral to the story...our Irish will get there, however it will take some time....

As many of you have said that is a well coached and talented opponent Notre Dame lost to.

What very few of you noted was that the score was a bit misleading. The game could have swung our way if we don't let that end in untouched on the 4th and 1 (I think that one was on Kyle) and if we could have just risen to the occasion on 3rd down (maybe to the point of being bad rather than embarrassing) then this is a different game.

The d played their asses off. Manti goes without saying. Blanton, Walls and Gray were awesome. The d-line was not as horrible as many make out...they were up against a pretty tight group who give the opposition some pretty different looks. As a unit they kept us in he game for a long while...I don't know what to say about the 3rd down melt-down...but that is something Diaco is going to need to address.

Offensively this was not a good performance. Christ let the pressure get to him and he did not progress through his reads. He was inconsistent and was holding on to the ball quite often when there were receivers open and Stanford was coming hard. He is a relatively inexperienced qb and this was not his best game but he will learn from this.

The line was inconsistent.

The receivers (to me) looked okay but just okay. A couple drops and no exceptional plays.

In all honesty, I think the game plan was not the best I have seen out of BK but hindsight is 20/20. I thought the rollout passes were there all day and more quick outside passes/tosses to the rbs (rather than pounding inside) might
have forced Stanford to play a bit more honest.

It was a tough one, but I expect the team to use it as motivation for Boston College where WE will be setting the pace and imposing our will on them. (so that is a prediction of sorts)

I don't know. For every chance we had to score, Stanford had 2. The fumbled punt was the last time I really felt we could put any pressure on the Cardinal at all. While you can point to a few plays where we could have done better, I'm sure Stanford can too. At the end of the day, the score reflected the game pretty well.

Let's not forget that Stanford settled for five field goals with the longest being about 41 yards (I think) meaning they had five drives that stalled inside the 25 yard line. If they convert those to touchdowns we're talking about Stanford scoring 20 more points then they did. Quite frankly it felt more like a 57-14 than 37-14 game to me. They just dominated. So I actually think the score was closer than the actual game.

!-Dayne is going to be a great qb in this system, but he is not there yet. I think we may have all been spoiled by how accurate of a passer Jimmy was.
2-The Defense is getting better every week, by the end of the year I think they will be pretty solid, and with good recruting can be really good in the future...Manti is a difference maker.
3-Stanford is a tough, blue collar football team, w/ a really good qb. I obviously hate them, but I kinda love how they play, the fb/lb kid w/ the terrible ponytail would be my favorite player ever if he played for the Irish...Starter both ways at fb and lb, are you serious? Total bad-***.
4-I can't wait to watch this team win their next 5 games, and after that who knows what could happen.
5-I truly think Stanford is the best team we will play, outside of the SEC (mainly thinking of Bama, but obviously Arkansas is pretty good.) they are the best team I have watched this year.

Receivers were poor, expect more from Floyd, too many drops. Cannot believe Theo held on to that one up the middle but still too many drops. Way to go Johnny Goodman. Need to see you more of TJ. Would like to see Bennet Jackson on O with a Go route b/c he's a burner! Where is Eifert????? Stanford lined up 2 TE's all day and we never did (that I saw). Would have liked to see Dayne move the pocket to the left or right more. Has same problem Jimmy Had his first 2 years, gives away his target by watching them too long before the throw. The D kept us in the game but the O is letting them down. Hope Allen is OK for next week. Didn't Hughes look fast on his long play? Trim too. Walls did well with paritally seperated shoulder, atta boy!

Thoughts?

How many chances to score did Stanford have which did not come after converting a long 3rd down? Take away even 1/2 of those and it is a different game.

I thought John Goodman was a huge positive all game.

I agree. Jones has all but disappeared the last two weeks. Why not give Goodman a shot at his position on the outside?

I disagree.

Theo Riddick would have had well over 100 yards again if the offensive line could do anything to protect Dayne Crist. He had 5 catches and 48 yards in the first quarter alone.

Bennett only does kick coverage duties, which really baffles me. He's a good gunner, but he is IMO our future at the slot position after Theo Riddick's eligibility is up following 2012.

Tyler Eifert plays a lot. I'd say 10-15 plays a game. Crist never throws to him.

Hughes did indeed look faster than he's been, but there's a reason he's on the bench. I noticed Ragone out there as well on that drive. Kelly was giving the backups some PT and mixed them in with Floyd and Riddick and some of the other starters.

Keep the criticism positive.

Keep the criticism positive.

Notre Dame Stinks. Plain and Simple.

1. Defense can't stop anyone. 3rd down percentage was over 75%.

2. Crist plays scared. I don't care how many yards he has, he is not confident in the pocket.

3. Kelly's play calling is awful. Smells like Weis over and over.

4. Floyd doesn't care. Routes are lazy and sloppy.

5. Defensive line is non-existent. Looks like a 7 on 7 scrimmage.

The one weakness in defense is our unwillingness to try for interceptions and we can't attempt that if we continue to play 5 yards or better from the potential receivers. In fact, we are remaining still until the ball is caught before an attempt at tackeling is made. We really need to play more agressively..especially the corners and safeties. I, too, beleive that Coach Kelly needs some new plays and aggressive play calling. Right now, he is too predictable and it shows each game. Go Irish.

True. But, the fact is, they got them. And most of them were pretty easy.

I think there's some truth to the fact that we were totally in the game until about mid-4th. But, every time a play needed to be made, they made it. We didn't.

That will change. I'm as confident as ever.
